BARPS & Vijnana Bhairava Ta**ra

A five-day retreat offered by Navtej Johar
23rd – 27th June 2023 at Jagori, Kangra, Himachal Pradesh

BARPS, an asana practice that aims to evoke the somatic relationship between the “body and word” is inspired by various texts. Based upon the realist philosophy of Samkhya and the Samkhya-Yoga of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, it equally incorporates the
sensory visualizations of the Vijnana Bhairava Ta**ra (VBT) and subsequently the hatha techniques proposed in the Hatha Yoga Pradipika. It is the dharanas (visualizations) of the VBT that have inspired the keyword methodology of BARPS to finely steer attention, riding on the subtle reciprocity between body and word to arrive at its desired source within the body. Just as a river has an innate appetite or iccha (wish) to merge with the ocean, BARPS is designed to attend upon the reverse-proclivity in the “river of breath” to once again become contained in its irreducible source, the bindu.

The daily practice during this five-day retreat will involve a guided practice of asana, pranayama, dhyana, and dharana. Considering that the BARPS classes over the last couple of years have been offered online, this retreat will also focus on the more advanced asanas and their adaptations with special attention on bandhas which are not easy to teach online.

The retreat will also be available online for participants who cannot join in person and open to all levels of asana practitioners.

I first came across Reiki when a yoga student shared a story about her experience receiving Reiki. And then lo and behold, the practitioner showed up in my yoga class a few weeks later. I was super curious about what this was all about and sought out to learn more. I attended an info session and experienced just a few minutes of deep deep relaxation. Once I had a few sessions to experience even more, I was convinced of the healing power of this practice.

I was amazed at the ease with which the benefits could be realized with really no effort. I felt super relaxed at the end of each session. Many times it felt like a heavyness was lifted.

So what is it?

Glad you asked.

Reiki is a healing technique where a practitioner channels energy into the patient by means of little or no touch, to activate the natural healing processes of the patient's body that assists in restoring physical and emotional well-being. It can even be done remotely!
