Lacy moved to Rochester from Chicago and has been coming to the Channel One Food Shelf for food support. She has multiple children and gets relief to her budget by getting groceries at the food shelf.
Coming from a big family herself, Lacy typically visits the food shelf with her sister. When asked about why being able to come to the food shelf is important, she said, “I don’t have anything. I need food.” Then laughed, “Look at me!”
To help Channel One continue to support neighbors like Lacy, please give a gift during by visiting the link in our bio and selecting “Give to the Max” from the menu.

At 109 years old, Maxine is a gentle, kind soul. She has lived in her current residence for 46 years, and for almost as long, Channel One has been providing vital food assistance that has become part of her well-being.
With her mobility and vision not being what they once were, Maxine looks forward to the food Channel One brings as part of her Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) box of groceries. "I can't leave my apartment on my own or without my wheelchair," she explains. "So getting food delivered by Channel One is wonderful."
The senior box of groceries from Channel One is more than food; it is a lifeline. While she says she is well taken care of and does OK financially, she is grateful for the additional support. She particularly enjoys the juice, peanut butter, raisins, and mixed vegetables that come with her CSFP box. Her housekeeper crafts homemade soups from the mixed vegetables, ensuring each meal is nutritious and comforting.
Additionally, Maxine loves when there is fresh produce like watermelon and cantaloupe. "When they bring the fresh produce, I enjoy those very much," she says. Oranges, in particular, make their way into her breakfast routine. "My daughter-in-law will watch for them when they arrive."
And when there is something she or her caretakers cannot use, Maxine shares with her neighbors. "If there is something someone else can use, I pass it on."
Perhaps these are the secrets to a long, healthy life like Maxine’s: fresh food to feed the body, kindness to encourage the soul, and a sense of community to nourish the spirit.
Not to scare you, but if you were thinking of visiting Boyer Halloowen that benefits , you have 8 days before the end of its spooky season! Gather up the family, bring your donation for Channel One, and have a faBOOlous time!

Ryan is a single father who has experienced homelessness and is caring for his two-year-old daughter. Through hard work and help from community organizations, he has been able to live in a hotel while waiting on housing for himself and his daughter. He is actively seeking employment, so money is very tight (and very difficult to job hunt while having a two year old and no family in the community).
Ryan has been to Rachel's Hope, a nonprofit dedicated to helping families with young children in Austin and a partner agency of Channel One, several times recently. On one visit, he asked if he could have more of the prepared Kitchen Coalition meals so he and his daughter could get by for the rest of the week.
“When staff replied, ‘Of course!’, a huge relief washed over me. We are really struggling right now and I don't know how I would be feeding my daughter if it weren't for these meals. I am just really thankful.”
Ryan is trying his hardest and doing all he can to create an independent life for himself and his daughter. Having easy access to healthy, prepared meals while he is working his way towards that independence makes a huge difference.

How many lunches have you packed in your life? It's a pretty typical task for many who go to work or school.
But thousands in Minnesota and Wisconsin don't have enough food to pack for today's lunch—some for the very first time in their life.
Chances are you live very close to someone facing hunger today. Currently half of all households across our 14-county region don’t make enough to cover the minimum cost of living.
We’re supporting brand new households at record rates. During just a single month earlier this year, more than 500 brand new households registered to receive help getting meals on the table. We distributed 10.9 million pounds in the first half of 2024, making this year one of the most demanding ever.
That’s why it’s so important to join forces with other community members and fight hunger together. Would you step into the gap today to supply emergency food support?
Your gift of $36 will help feed 12 children for a week. $52 will help feed a family for a month. $83 will help feed 9 seniors for three weeks, and just $135 will help feed 11 neighbors for a full month!
Too many neighbors don’t know where their next meal is coming from. We use your support effectively and efficiently to fight hunger. Please help make sure we can distribute enough food to feed all our neighbors who need us. Give today at HelpingFeedPeople.org/Donate!
