SUMMER LEARNING ☀️: The summer learning program for elementary students began today at Neil Armstrong Elementary School! The goal of this program is to continue growth and reinforcement of learning and reading for our young students 📚

MOVING UP: We were so proud to celebrate our fifth-graders from Florence Brasser Elementary School, Neil Armstrong Elementary School, Paul Road Elementary School and Walt Disney Elementary School advancing to Gates Chili Middle School last week! Thank you for all the years of dedication you have given to the district and our students. We are sad to see you go, but so proud and grateful for the time we have had with you. Enjoy your retirement, you have more than earned it!

🎓 Today, the Class of 2024 participated in the beloved Graduation walk! Graduating seniors traveled to Walt Disney Elementary School, Florence Brasser Elementary School, Paul Road Elementary School, Neil Armstrong Elementary School, and Gates Chili Middle School to parade around in their caps and gowns as staff and students throughout the district cheered them on! We can’t wait to see these students walk the stage tomorrow night!

Happy Juneteenth!

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when federal troops arrived in Texas to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people were freed. This historic moment took place a full two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth was first recognized as a federal holiday in 2021 and honors the end to slavery in the United States.

NEW SPARTANS: Tonight, the Gates Chili Board of Education has appointed Lindsey Georger and Kylie Smith as the next assistant principals at Neil Armstrong Elementary School and Florence Brasser Elementary School!

Georger comes to Gates Chili from the Rochester City School District, meanwhile, Smith comes to GC from the Geneva City School District. Welcome to Gates Chili! 💙❤️

BUILDING BRIGHTER FUTURES: Today we broke ground on Gates Chili Middle School's new music, art and technology classrooms, officially kicking off the next phase of our capital project at GCMS! After the ceremony, Board of Education members and administrators got a look at the progress on our capital project at the high school!
Together with our dedicated partners, including Campus Construction Management Group, we are building brighter futures for our school community!

Last week, second-graders at Walt Disney Elementary School debuted "Bee the Change" 🐝

The original musical features six original songs produced and written by second-grade teacher Kara Snyder and her husband Sam Snyder. Going beyond just songs and choreography, this musical was written to align with ELA and Science standards as a creative and engaging way for students to learn.

REMINDER FOR FAMILIES: There is no school next Wednesday, June 19 in observance of Juneteenth. And don't forget the last day of school for students in grades K-8 is next Friday, June 21!

MEET OUR GREAT CREW: Lynne Schmitt helps keep students active and healthy not only through her work as a physical education teacher at Paul Road Elementary School, but also by offering opportunities for before-school intramurals and after-school clubs, like kickball and flag football! She is always willing to go the extra mile for our Panthers! Thank you for all that you do, Lynne!

SCHOOL NUTRITION TUESDAY: Celebrate the start of the summertime picnic season with a fresh piece of corn on the cob! The summer staple tastes best when it's picked at its peak ripeness. Here in Western New York, peak corn season comes in late summer. You can grill, boil or even microwave corn on the cob. Add some seasoning to give it an extra kick!

Today marks the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings along the Normandy coast during World War II. The D-Day operation of June 6, 1944, is known as the largest seaborne invasion in history, and a major turning point in the war.
