Positivity definitely has a place in our lives, but the pressure to constantly choose that thought process keeps us away from feeling the full spectrum of emotions. Including those that may feel uncomfortable and painful.

Happy New Year to my wonderful clients, friends, and followers!
As we go into the new year, it's a great time to dump the resolutions and set intentions instead. We set a different bar for ourselves when we don't have the expectation of a resolution to live up to and instead, shift the mindset to intentionality.
Little steps pave the way to success!

Anyone else dreading the Fall and transition into Winter?
Seeing the leaves falling, feeling the chill in the air, and being bombarded with Pumpkin everything can be overwhelming. Especially when these things are everywhere like on Social Media. Not to mention the loss of daylight.
It's clear that our bodies struggle with the loss of light. But when this is added to any sort of Mental Health struggle, our thoughts and feelings can be amplified.
Check out this article highlighting the affect that seasonal transitions can have along with some helpful tools to keep yourself healthy.

Boundaries and assertiveness have been hot topics lately!
With Quarantine forcing us to spend more time in, oftentimes with family, having firm, healthy boundaries are incredibly important in order to help us feel safe both physically and emotionally.
Here is a great article about boundaries, what they look like, and how to implement them.

Boundaries: A Guide to Making Essential Life Decisions Learning when to say yes and when to say no to others and yourself.
Quarantine is getting monotonous for some. Boring for others. Straight up triggering for some. And a few of you wildflowers are out there enjoying some lessened stress.

With so much uncertainty and lack of steady routines right now, it's important to keep this check list in mind as we face more doubts and questions heading into Summer. Mental Health is health!
To all my fellow Therapist friends and colleagues out there!
As Missy, my very wise intern supervisor from back in my grad school days always reminded us, you cannot pour from an empty cup. You have to take care of you first!
There certainly isn't enough support for anyone right now, but it seems as if we have become the invisible providers in this crisis. That doesn't make our jobs any less meaningful, productive, or stressful. And we've had to jump through more hurdles than most.
But none of those things stops us from doing the job we love and it certainly doesn't stop us from making sure that our clients receive the resources that they so desperately need. No matter what.

Mental Health Workers: The Invisible First Responders in this Pandemic Why mental health workers need safeguarding and protection more than ever.
While we long for normalcy in an uncertain time, I challenge you to think about the things you've had to go without and see if they're worth allowing back into your space once we're allowed to return to our usual day to day lives. You might find some growth in this uncomfortable time!
