Airxchange® strives to find ways to assist you with making smart energy choices, including improving your energy productivity and efficiency, and lowering your operating cost. Many electric and gas utilities offer generous rebate programs in order to encourage the use of Energy Recovery Ventilation (ERV). The reduction in peak load as well as ongoing operating savings combines to help utilities achieve their mandate in encouraging use of energy efficient equipment.

ERV’s qualify for custom rebate programs that are offered by most utilities. Usually, the local utility representative administers the program and will assist customers with the qualification process. https://www.airxchange.com/lc/utility-rebates/

October is energy awareness month! Did you know that incorporating energy recovery wheels into HVAC designs can lead to up to 80% energy savings? This technology is particularly effective in extreme temperature climates, where heating or cooling can significantly increase energy consumption.

Recovering thermal energy from exhaust air not only reduces costs but also minimizes environmental impact. Prioritizing sustainable and energy-efficient building solutions is crucial, and energy recovery technology is a key component.

This illustration below shows the annual energy savings we would expect from an Energy Recovery Wheels produced in 2022.

A healthy building starts with better ventilation

For decades, we have failed to design our buildings with health as the primary focus. This is particularly true for ventilation standards that apply to homes, schools, offices, and just about everywhere else you spend time indoors, which specifically state that they are not intended to limit the spread of respiratory diseases. The COVID-19 pandemic — caused by a respiratory virus spread nearly entirely indoors — revealed the shortcomings of this approach.

For the first time in 40 years, we now have the opportunity to course correct. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gAyxQwNu

The two big pandemic investments we still need to make 09/06/2022

"Another important cornerstone of a path forward, is improving air qualities in buildings. That would be impactful, not just for Covid but for other droplet- or aerosol-borne illnesses, never mind allergies and pollution. For decades, scientists have been aware of links between a variety of health problems and contaminated indoor air, but the pandemic has led to renewed interest and focus on the infection risks of inadequate filtration and ventilation."

Funding School Indoor Air Quality Upgrades 08/29/2022

Federal Funding to Improve Indoor Air Quality in Schools

Fewer than 40% of schools have utilized these available funds to replace or upgrade their systems.

The COVID-19 pandemic has reinforced the importance of fresh air ventilation, but many U.S. schools are still in need of ventilation upgrades to improve indoor air quality and reduce the spread of infectious diseases. Congress has approved billions in funding for public and private schools that can be used for a broad range of covid-related responses including new Energy Recovery Ventilation (ERV) systems. Through these timely funds, schools can be better equipped to provide a healthy and safe learning environment:

- Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund

How To Use HVAC Solutions To Improve Your School’s IEQ - FaFacility ExecutiveAs students start going back to school, facility managers should consider how to enhance a building’s indoor environmental quality.

Bringing clean outdoor air into a facility is a must. HVAC units allow facility managers to control ventilation and determine how much outdoor air is pushed into an interior space. It is important to determine how much outside air is best for the interior space. While fresh, clean air is being pulled inside, the HVAC unit is also pushing old, contaminated air outdoors.

Proposed Tax Credits Could Improve IAQ and Save Energy 08/02/2022

Proposed Tax Credits Could Improve IAQ and Save Energy - Newsweek

A huge part of running a successful business is keeping operating costs under control. The maintenance of mechanical HVAC systems is a key part of this consideration and is considered the building's number one asset. With the recent pandemic pushing indoor air quality (IAQ) issues to the forefront, maintaining proper indoor air quality is an additional challenge. Fortunately, improving IAQ through the maintenance and upgrading of HVAC systems helps lower operating costs. It also provides the benefit of creating healthy buildings and, thus, healthy people making IAQ a worthwhile investment.

The IAQ tax credits will help offset the cost of HVAC assessments as well as upgrades and repairs to the system. It can ease the financial impact of cleaning and disinfection procedures too. For example, under the legislation, commercial building owners would receive an IAQ tax credit of $1 per square foot for IAQ assessments and $5 per square foot for buildings affected by air filters. An additional $50 per square foot is available for ventilation systems with the limit set at 50% of the total project cost

Both the CDC and White House have stressed indoor ventilation as a potent weapon in the battle to contain COVID. Congress has approved billions in funding for public and private schools that can be used for a broad range of COVID-related responses — such as providing mental health services, face masks, air filters, new HVAC systems, or tutoring for kids who fell behind.

Among the sizable funding pots for upgrades: $13 billion for schools in the 2020 Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act; an additional $54 billion approved in December 2020 for schools’ use; and $122 billion for schools from the 2021 American Rescue Plan. No school should have to close because of extreme heat - Washington Post

There is concern that air conditioning could contribute to more greenhouse gas emissions, which would exacerbate the heat problem. But there are solutions here that we haven’t yet tapped. First and foremost, schools should be part of the “electrify everything” movement, with the goal of eliminating on-site combustion of fossil fuels. Heat pumps are in vogue because they can provide electric cooling and heating. And energy-recovery ventilation systems allow us to keep ventilation rates high for infection control while conserving energy to cool and heat the air.

The True Cost of Failure Rates in Poorly Made Energy Recovery Wheels – and How to Avoid Them 01/25/2022

All Desiccants Are Not Created Equal

Desiccant is the magical compound that makes energy recovery wheels work. On our polymer wheel, the desiccant is “permanently bonded” into the media, using a patented manufacturing process. This ensures the desiccant doesn’t degrade over time or from cleaning and maintenance, and performance levels remain high. Having to replace a wheel less often is a simple economic benefit: Less capital expenditures means more money stays in the business.
