2023 has been great for my R4NS0M project. I learned a lot in the studio, had my first solo EP released on .cornersmusic, had a few solo tracks released, had a second EP released with , got to share music LOUD on dance floors for and .
A lot on the horizon for 2024, and all that stuff I’ve learned… well that spawns new questions and ideas to explore. A big thank you for anyone who has taken the time to check out my music, included that music in your sets & mixes, read my posts, said hello at a party, chatted, or shared ideas with me.

Excited to get involved with the crew back down in DC! Was asked recently if I would be a rotating resident at a new dnb concept (no pun intended !), where the focus is on fresh material. Will be cooking up a lot of new ideas, and even the events I don’t make it down for, I’m aiming to be there sonically in someone’s crate.

Posted • We're taking over next month in Minneapolis and are jam-packing the lineup with some fresh and familiar faces. To kick off the evening, will be joining us from NYC to kick off the night with a special deconstructed set. To celebrate their debut release with SMNL is . Hailing from Boston comes with some forthcoming SMNL fire that will soon be unleashed to the masses. Last but not least, we've beckoned badman, from Philly to close out the night with some science! Local soundboys are on deck with the heavy artillery. Lock it in, Minneapolis!

Released as part of the Remix The Ting campaign for Elijah & Jammz's 'Make The Ting' album. Been a big fan of the yellow squares that Elijah has been doing for a bit now, and when I saw an opportunity to get involved I went for it. Ended up going a bit heavier and less wonky than recent work, but that's part of the fun doing something like this. Next premiere from the EP, “At Odds With Everything”. This one was one of those “am I terrible? Can I even produce? Wait, can I make this work?” tunes, hence the title. Originally wrote this in 2013, revamped it in 2021 and found what I was aiming for, finally making this one fit what I was aiming for. It’s one of my favorites, partly because of how I had to battle it out with myself.

It's officially (early) release day of my debut EP for Four Corners Music! The 'This Is R4NS0M' EP is available exclusively on Beatport and on Spotify for the next two weeks, with the full release on April 28th.

First time I finished in 2023 becomes the first release for me this year. “Cave In” is a collab with , who I met through some other producer friends over the past two years, and is the title track on his debut EP for . Got a few more bits we’re cooking up, and go check the rest of his EP!
In a few more weeks, my own debut EP for 4 Corners Music will be out too 🥳

Out this Friday on The WiddFam! Dvalue and I just finished this collab earlier this year, got a few more underway.

This is a quick one, probably one of the more deeply seated memories that seems to touch a few places. This is one of my favorite records on V Recordings, part of the huge V Classics album, and a track that still sounds amazing to me, nearly 25 years after it was released. Getting the big blue set and pouring through every track.
Hearing the intro to “War & Peace” instantly triggers memories of DJ Bailey. I feel like he championed this one harder than any other DJ, and I remember last seeing him a few years ago in DC, still dropping this tune to great effect on the system at U Hall. Bailey was always a treat to hear play in DC, he brought a certain energy to parties when he played there, lots of upfront music, and lots of well placed older tunes. I think I got to open for him the first time he played for 2Tuff, or maybe one of his return trips, probably around 1998 or 1999 at Club Danko. He’s among a set of DJs I really looked up to, somehow got on a few line-ups with as an opener, and then never met because I was on the dance floor for their set.
Now I want to write a bunch of music that vibes off the bass line and sound FX on “War & Peace”...

This is the one that hooked me, the beginning of my trainspotting habit. I distinctly remember the first time I heard this, Kemistry & Storm at Ultraworld's Eclipse rave at the DC Armory, Easter weekend 1996. The event was a day party, one act at a time, with bands playing the four corners of the room, and DJs playing from the center, on a raised pillar. There was a lot of excitement in the scene as it was the first event like this at the DC Armory, and for the dnb/jungle community, Kemistry & Storm were a hotly tipped duo from the UK, representing the Metalheadz label. As hoped, an amazing set, I had no idea what any of the tunes were, but over the coming months I started to hear some of them in other sets, and getting IDs on them.
A few months later, at a smaller all-dnb event in Baltimore at the Raza warehouse, Kemistry & Storm were back and headlining. I had some friends (Pat E., Eric K., Ryan B.) from high school that were home for their summer break from university, and were open to going to raves. They were along to hang out, dance, party; I was keeping my ears open for new music to hunt down. Probably 1AM or so, I hear the intro chimes, and I rush over the side of the stage. Jason / Method One had played earlier and was hanging out. I knew who he was but had not worked up the courage to talk to him. I bought his Mood Swings mixtape a few months prior, was listening to it often. I went up to him and asked what the tune was, and he turned to whichever of the duo was not on the decks, and they let me know it was Ed Rush's "The Raven", and it would be out on Metalheadz later in the year.
In the past year or so I've heard and read a few interviews with DJ Storm, where she explained how she and Kemistry worked out of one crate at gigs. I've always thought of "The Raven" as a Kemistry track, there was this dark tinge to the track, sort of a danger to it, which I attributed to Kemistry's rough side, paired up with Storm's smooth.
