After 37 years, we will close here at Upstares Salon. There have been so many wonderful people that have passed through our doors, and I have worked with alongside some great stylists. We will be open until December 23rd and having a Aveda sale, (20% off) to celebrate the salon.
I want to thank everyone involved with the salon over the years and for all the love and laughs. We are still in the process of contacting our clients about our next chapter in doing hair. (Where and when.)

FYI……Main St in Downtown Royal Oak will be closed tomorrow , Tuesday for re paving.

Soooo, as of 1:30 PM today, Friday, June 24th, we are on our second day of no phone lines, Wi-Fi or credit card machine. Please spread the word. Royal Oak outside construction cut our line. Hopefully be back up soon. 

It’s been 36yrs to the day that we opened the doors here at Upstares Salon and we’re still having a blast ! Stop by to help us celebrate with our sale on Aveda hair products now through the end of February.

We are looking for the right individual to join our front desk staff at our busy salon. Any salon experience is helpful but not necessary. Good people skills a must. 

I have been very fortunate to have this guy working in our salon for the last 30 years. Don’t know what we would have done without him. Thank you so much John Gonska for all your support over the years.

Boy, time flies by when you’re having fun. It’s been 35 years since I’ve opened up Upstares salon and still having a blast. This past year was rough, but with a great staff we got through to the other side. I can’t begin to tell you how much I love my job !

So our new game with Hanna is Cat Stacking. We try to see how many items we can stack on her. Rules are : 1) must be different size items and weight (no straws). 2) must not tip off items for 5 minutes.
Her current record is 14 !

We are looking for the right person to join our front desk staff. Must be available Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, 10:30 AM to 7:30 PM.

So, I opened Upstares Salon in 1986. While going into Incognito in Downtown Royal Oak, I met Kimmy. She had such great energy and I hired her to work as a receptionist.
In a year she wanted to go to beauty school to become a hairstylist and she was great!
Her clients would wait months for her to create her magic.
A few years ago, she had to take a break from hair for her ongoing fight against diabetes. Even though she fought strong against all odds, her body could go on no longer.
I am so lucky she was part of our salon family for so many years. Kim Backus you will be missed !

It’s always a blast to change Erica’s look. She wanted something a little more fun so we balayage her ends and brightened the base to achieve this look. Cut and color by Ronel Scott

With heavy heart we have to announce that Katie will no longer be working at the salon. After many years of making the long drive from her home once a month to service her clients, Covid has impacted her decision. We will make sure all of her clients are in good hands. We have the color formulations for your styles and I will see to it personally that everyone is taken care of. I want to thank Katie for all her years at the salon and her fun personality will solely be missed.

Who says you cannot tell someone is smiling behind the mask. Here’s Cheryl having fun with her client.

Hi everyone, we are so excited to open for business this Monday, June 15. We really have missed everyone!
To make your visit safer during these times, we will ask you to follow the COVID-19 guidelines we have set up for the salon on your visits.
1. Please arrive 10 minutes early for your appointments.
2. Phone the salon from outside to tell us you are here.
3. We will then tell you if you can come inside yet.
4. All guests will have to wear a mask at all times in the salon.
(as will all salon employees)
5. Stop at the front desk to have your temperature digitally read.
( as will all salon employees)
6. You will be asked to fill out a quick COVID-19 questionnaire sheet.
7. There will be no coffee, tea or beverages served during your visit.
8. We are only allowed to serve one guest at a time. You will not be allowed to bring anyone with you to allow for social distancing
We take your health and safety seriously.

Your wait is over, no need to hide. We’re opening back up on Monday, June 15th ! Our receptionists will be in the salon starting tomorrow to move appointments, make appointments and discuss the procedure everyone will need to go through to enter the salon. I cannot begin to tell you how excited we are to see everyone. More details coming in the next week.. Thank you for being so patient.
