Over 7,000 educators traveled to New Orleans this week for the Louisiana Department of Education Teacher Leader Summit. Among those 7,000 were some of our own from Lincoln Parish School District!

Not only did they actively participate in numerous sessions, but many were also asked to be speakers during these sessions! It's opportunities like these that truly showcase the commitment and expertise within our district.

We couldn't be prouder to see our educators at the forefront of shaping the future of education in Louisiana!

What do you get when you combine oatmeal, dish soap, glitter, apple sauce, and a big orange tractor?! If you're in Simsboro, you get a celebration! Yesterday K-5 students in Simsboro Elementary held their annual field day and celebrated raising an impressive $5,262.67 for the American Heart Association!

In February Simsboro Elementary students participated in a nationwide event called Kids Heart Challenge. They made goals to be more active, drink more water, and eat fruits and vegetables, along with other health goals to get their hearts active. The school-wide goal was $5,000. They raised above and beyond that with a total of $5,262.67 this year! Mr. Blachier told students if they met their goal this year, he would get slimed. Students were more than happy to take him up on that offer!

Last week fourth-grade students at Cypress Springs Elementary participated in a career fair! The event provided a unique opportunity for students to learn more about various careers and interact with community leaders who chose those professions.

Throughout the day, students had the opportunity to engage with professionals representing different fields, including healthcare, public service, banking, and more. Interacting with these leaders allowed students to ask questions and learn about the educational pathways and skills required for different professions.

“Lincoln Parish schools strive for students to be career and/or college-ready. Yes! As early as 4th grade, we want to prepare our students for success upon graduation!” Mary Kilgore, principal at Cypress Springs noted. “Our first career fair was to take place in March of 2020. Due to the COVID school closures, it was canceled. This year, we decided to plan for it again. It was an exhilarating event for the students! They were so eager to visit each booth to learn about various career paths that are right here in their community!”

The success of the career fair serves as a testament to the collaborative spirit and support that Lincoln Parish Schools receives from the community. Students witnessed firsthand that not only do their teachers want them to be successful in life, but other community members are in their corner and willing to help them make those decisions.

During Library Auxiliary, the 4th and 5th grade students at Ruston Elementary School conducted a mini research project about their very own mascot, the lion. They learned about using MLA format and used it to cite their sources which included an article, World Book Online, and a nonfiction book. For the culminating activity, students showed their creativity by coloring lion faces. They even incorporated Earth Day, by reusing discarded books and magazines to construct the manes for their lions!

Summer is almost here and that means longer days, fun in the sun, and best of all for kids, no homework! For some Louisiana students receiving free or reduced-price school lunches, summer also means the loss of nutritious school meals. In addition to the newly expanded summer feeding options, SUN Bucks help fill that gap by providing grocery benefits to help families put meals on the table when schools are closed.

Click the link below to learn more about the SUN Buck program.

Lincoln Parish School District is thrilled to announce that four of its resident teachers have been named to the Louisiana Board of Regents Future Educator Honor Roll. The four recipients currently completing their teaching residency in Lincoln Parish School District are:

Lauren Butler- Grambling State University
Lauren Gauthier- Louisiana Tech University
Katrice McMullen- Grambling State University
Laynie Pyle- University of Louisiana Monroe
These future educators will be honored by Louisiana Governor, Jeff Landry, Commissioner of Higher Education, Dr. Kim Hunter-Reed, and State Superintendent of Education, Dr. Cade Brumley, in a special program at Louisiana’s Old State Capitol on Tuesday, May 7.

“To have a resident teacher be named to the Future Educator Honor Roll is great, but to have four resident teachers be recognized is a tremendous honor,” said Mr. Ricky Durrett, Superintendent of Lincoln Parish School District. “These recognitions are a testament to the quality of higher education that we have in our area. The partnerships we have with Grambling, Louisiana Tech, and ULM are invaluable and allow us to have a hand in shaping future educators.”
