Geisthaus Brewing Company
10bbl Lager Brewery coming 2024 to Sacramento, CA!
Tank day #2 of 3! We got a bunch of our PREMIER STAINLESS SYSTEMS cellar tanks today and everything went pretty smooth with getting them offloaded and into the brewery. Tomorrow the rest of our tanks will be delivered and over the next week or so we will be setting them into position for Steven R Habbestad to do what he does best.
How do you put an 8.9ft tall tank through a 7.5ft opening? VERY CAREFULLY.
An absolutely HUGE day for us at the brewery! Our PREMIER STAINLESS SYSTEMS brewhouse arrived today! With the help from our guys Dynamic Trades Inc. and our combined creative prowess they were able to craft a cradle for us on the fly to lay these babies down for a nap before we stood them upright onto our freshly cured Argelith Tile production floor. Still a lot of work to do but we are one step closer.
Package secured! Our .cz side-pull faucets have arrived from the Czech Republic! These beer faucets are specifically designed to pour a perfect beer. Brewing, fermenting, and packaging are all important in creating great beer. But how a beer is served is also very critical, and often overlooked, for a quality drinking experience. With this in mind, all our lagers will be served from Lukr faucets and into appropriate glassware for each beer style (yup you heard us right, ALL of them).
New tile in the brewery finishing by the end of the month. Can’t wait to put the brewhouse on this thing in a few weeks!
While more traditional German-style lagers will be a large focus for us, we don’t shy away from proper American innovation when it comes to lagers and beer in general. With this in mind we’ve been whipping up some R&D lagers for our smaller focus, this Hazy Pale Lager included. Mashed with Pelton Pilsner & Shaniko White Wheat malt, and rolled oats. Fermented with Class III lager yeast Novalager. Dry hopped with Citra, Nelson, Sabro, and Strata.
Happy National Beer Day! We bring you an update on our progress and what we are looking forward to. For critical path we got all the below-ground plumbing finished and the new concrete slab was just poured. This next week we will be setting our trench drains and then having our Argelith tile installed for a finished floor! We also have a lot of landscaping work starting towards the end of this month like new walkways, sidewalk/driveway, and our biergarten patio. Still a lot of other work to be done but in about a month we can hopefully receive our brewhouse and cellar equipment!
So much progress🤩 ! Brewery floor is pretty much demo’d out here. Going to excavate a bit and get our plumbing set before pouring back the new concrete slab with an Argelith tile finish. So far so good for the projected early fall timeframe, fingers crossed! 🤞
The demo is coming along nicely at the brewery. At this stage we are about ready to put in our new structural footings and supports for the brewing area and finish the demo on the old supports. Once that is finished we can demo out the rest of the floor and get ready for plumbing install.
Crazy finally seeing this get busted out! Can’t wait for the next chapter of history this building will hold. Still got a lot of work to do.
The building is ours! Here are some details about the location, we know a lot of you have been asking:
- Located just south of US50 at Bradshaw rd (you can actually see it from the Freeway).
- The building is ~ 7k sf, just about half tasting room, half production.
- Property sits on a 1 acre lot, with close to 80 parking spaces.
- Has some landscaping surrounding the building, a portion of which will be converted to outdoor patio/biergarten.
Construction is starting next week and if all goes well should be completed later next Summer 🤞. The property will need some beautification but the building has a really cool vibe and we can’t wait to show off everything once it’s complete. 🍻
First off, Happy National Lager Day! Secondly, we’ve got a massive (and frankly long overdue) update for you all on the brewery. But before we get to that we want to address our silence for the last ~6 months.
Some miscommunication with the County resulted in one department not being notified of our project, so in the last minute they stepped in with some things we needed to deal with. We also had some very unfortunate things happen with our Contractor causing us to find a new Contractor, and out of respect for the former’s privacy we won’t get into those details. During this time we received so many messages asking for an update on our progress. As much as we wanted to respond, there were still some uncertainties to our timeline and we didn’t want to keep making false promises until we were more sure of things. We are elated to tell you that time is now!
IT’S FINALLY HAPPENING! In just a couple of weeks we will close Escrow on our property location with construction starting in January! Plans are to be open late next Summer, barring any setbacks in construction. We will give another update with some pics of the place once we get our keys, and regular progress updates during construction.
**Big Update!**
Our plans have been approved by the County! After we sort out a couple things we can start construction later in the Summer and bring you tasty beers like this Dunkel here later in the year. Also, Happy German Beer Day!🍻
Munich Helles 5.2% abv.
The amazing experience we gathered from the many (big emphasis on the many 😂) Biergartens in Germany brought us to how we approached an R&D batch of this legendary beer style. We used the finest German ingredients we could get our hands on and finished it by spunding for fantastic natural carbonation, served properly in a traditional liter stein. Co-founder Brady sums up the finished product: "As I sit at home and close my eyes while drinking this beer, it's as if I'm back drinking with friends and family at the bustling biergarten at the Chinese Tower nestled within the English Garden in Munich. Super proud and stoked for this beer, probably the most on-point beer I've made to date and can't wait to share this with everyone."
Happy National Drink Beer Day!🍻🎉
Here we have pictured an R&D version of our Festbier featuring Pelton, Vanora, and Metolius malt. We love using German malts for the majority of our beers, but we also love the wonderful malts being produced by the amazing maltsters we have here in the US. Expect a heavy rotation of specialty lagers featuring craft malt from these amazing people produced here in America 🇺🇸.
*** Brewery Update ***
Sac County Planning approved our plans for the brewery, so we can submit for our building permit once we get approval for the landscaping portion which includes a ~1500sf patio/biergarten (and other property upgrades). Once we get our building permit we can essentially start construction! As soon as we know more we will certainly keep you all updated.
So what are WE doing in the meantime? We took a trip to Germany!🇩🇪 Our dedication to learn all we could about traditional and modern German beer culture brought us to this point so we could provide the best experience for all you lager lovers out there. We are here for another week and are thoroughly enjoying ourselves (and the beer). Prost!
Foam is important
Notice is up, we’re getting closer! Looking more like beginning of next year due to some delays. Can’t wait to show everything we have in store for you all!
So there’s not much to update you all on. Things are moving along slowly but surely in the design/permitting process and will be submitting for county approval soon.
In the meantime we’ve been brewing up some killer small batch R&D lagers. As they say, practice makes perfect!
What we have pictured is a DDH Hazy India Pale Lager. This is probably going to be our most experimental lager, with a healthy double dose of Talus, Citra, and Sabro Lupomax. And yah, we don’t mess around with the foam game either because we
Big milestone submitting for our license today. Just like with lagers, slowly but surely good things come to those who wait.
We were out at the brewery site yesterday reviewing our updated design proposal with our architect. Things are looking really good and we are hoping to submit for county approval really soon! Can't wait to show everyone what we've got planned!
What's up Sacramento!? What lager styles are you most excited for us to bring to the local beer scene? Drop your answers in the comments!
While you think about your answers, here's Ben on his wedding day tapping into a unique and very special lager that we have planned for you. 🙊
Hey everyone, allow us to introduce ourselves! Our story is one of friendship and beer. The culmination of a dream many years in the making. We are Brady, Ben, and Brian.
Let’s first start off with our brewing team: best friends Ben and Brady. They both grew up in Sacramento as neighbors living across the street from each other and have remained friends throughout adulthood. They started homebrewing beer together and quickly their hobby turned into their passion. After racking up many awards over the next several years they decided to turn their hobby into their profession. Their combined experience consists of 10 years of professional brewing including leading brewing operations at 2 local Sacramento area breweries, education at UC Davis Master Brewers program, and professional certification from the Institute of Brewing and Distilling in London.
Brady and Brian met by means of a connection through VCA Mueller Pet Medical Center in Sacramento where Brady's wife, Moira, works as a Veterinarian and Brian performs cardiac ultrasounds through his mobile cardiology practice. Brady, Ben, and Brian soon became fast friends through their shared interest in craft beer and homebrewing, with their relationship culminating into a new adventure of opening a brewery.
Our specialty is in the production of high quality, top-tier lagerbier. Hopheads and those that dabble in the Dark Arts will not be forgotten and we are excited to share with you what lager can really do.
