The final theme for our deep-dive into MillerKnoll's Design With Impact is "Change".
MillerKnoll recognizes change as a part of life and focuses on helping people plan for change and to comfortably embrace it. According to Prosci (2023), Organizations with the most effective change management are 7X more likely to meet objectives.
The ways MillerKnoll has identified to help organizations approach change include proactively designing and planning for change, implementing pilots for workspaces, and providing furniture with high flexibility. At MTA we also emphasize sustainability in the conversation about change, including how thoughtful design can prevent wasted materials and the intent to source better materials.

The Knoll Inc. Tugendhat Chair has returned from the archives to display an interesting juxtaposition of playfulness and elegance.
Designed in 1929 by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, for the Tugendhat family villa in Brno, Czech Republic, the Tugendhat Chair offers a cantilevered frame, leather strap back, and thick untufted cushions. Originally called the Feder-Sessel or “spring chair” in English, for the kinetic movement offered by the frame, the chair gained it's name when images of the completed designs of the Tugendhat villa were released.
To properly display the beauty of the Tugendhat chair, it returned to the Tugendhat villa in the Czech Republic to be photographed for the rerelease.

The community ties we have at MTA are very central to who we are, and what we care about.
Located in midtown Sacramento, we are surrounded by local businesses and other companies in the furniture and design industry. On R street, or as we say OuR street, we are connected to the R Street Corridor and the historic district. Our warehouse resides in West Sacramento, just across the Tower Bridge. Back in the 60’s Miles Treaster’s early office building was a Victorian on J street. These are just a few examples of the deep roots MTA has in Sacramento.
Our Sacramento pride is not only about our long history in the city, but the work we’ve done throughout the Greater Sacramento area. We’ve implemented designs at the Golden One Center for the Sacramento Kings, Sutter Health Park for the Sacramento River Cats, and the SAFE Convention Center. But our work in Sacramento goes beyond events centers. We’ve helped design local hospitals, schools and universities, corporate offices, government buildings, bars and restaurants, and even the SMF Airport. The scope of our work means that you’ve likely come in contact or have been impacted by MTA, if you’re a Sacramento resident.
For our clients, this Sacramento Pride helps differentiate us from the competition, because they know that they are working with a company who values the impact our work has on the community. At MTA we treat our work with care and passion as we help develop an even greater Sactown!

A large concern when navigating hybrid work, is fostering strong connections with those working remotely.
Research says that many companies are falling victim to proximity bias and hybrid workers are being left behind. 56% of managers said they care more about the growth of in-person workers, likely due to this proximity bias. In order to support connections with remote employees, it is best create consistent communication guidelines, regardless of the employee’s location, and define quantifiable expectations to prevent inadvertent favoritism due to proximity.
In this evolving workspace, it’s important to design with these connections in mind. You can learn more about Connection and Design with Impact at https://www.mtaoffice.com/millerknoll/design-with-impact

Spaces to gather are one of the bigger benefits for people coming into the office. Multi-use community settings like forums or cafés adapt to support people when and where they work. They’re ideal for sharing information, networking, hosting, or socializing.
