Congratulations to our 2022 Fellows! 🎉 We are thrilled to see them embark on their college journeys this fall. Their hard work and accomplishments are a source of great pride for us. We'd like to welcome to the BSA Board one of our 2000 Buck Scholars, Isabel Brice. She is currently an analyst for the state Department of Housing and Community Development where she focuses on diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, engagement and recognition, and strategic planning. Before her role with the state, she worked in education and employment services, serving students and families in underserved communities. Isabel earned bachelor’s degrees in Economics and Studio Art from Stanford University. In 2022, she joined the BSA Fellows Selection Committee and became a mentor in 2023 before joining the Board.

Our Story
We are #BuckScholars expanding educational opportunities for a new generation of extraordinarily high-potential, low-income high school students to continue the #BuckLegacy.
The story of the Buck Scholars Association begins with the Frank H. and Eva B. Buck Foundation, a private foundation established in 1990 to enlarge the educational opportunities of gifted and talented Northern California youth who demonstrated exceptional academic promise, as well as “strength of character, enterprise, and personal initiative.” Between 1990 and 2010, 282 individuals received these scholarships, enabling them to attend the world’s most elite institutions; push the frontiers of art, research and medicine; found new companies; and make significant contributions to their communities.
In 2008, soon after the Foundation announced it would close, Scholars established the Buck Scholars Association as an independent non-profit organization to carry on the Buck educational legacy, improve opportunities for others, and cultivate a new generation of leaders.
In 2011, a group of Scholars developed the idea for establishing a mentoring program as a way to mobilize the talents and resources of the entire Buck community and continue the Buck educational legacy. After this idea received strong positive feedback from the community, BSA worked off and on for nearly three years to design the program and bring it to fruition. In 2014, BSA launched the Buck Fellows Program. Five high school sophomores from the Northern California area were selected by the BSA Board to be part of the inaugural Buck Fellows class. Fellows are chosen in their sophomore year of high school through a competitive selection process. Over 24 Fellows have been selected so far, with a new class added each year.
