Every year on July 28th, World Hepatitis Day (WHD) is observed to spread awareness of viral hepatitis, which affects more than 354 million people worldwide. Viral hepatitis causes inflammation of the liver that can lead to serious illness and liver cancer. According to the World Health Organization, 78% of cases of primary liver cancer result from hepatitis B and C viruses. This day serves as a reminder of the importance of bringing hepatitis care closer to primary healthcare facilities and communities so that people, regardless of the type of hepatitis they may carry, have better access to treatment and care. Ask your doctor if you need to be screened or vaccinated today!

Summer is here, and so are all the fun activities that come with it! Whether you're hitting the beach, having a barbecue, or going on vacation, it's important to keep your dental health in check. Here are some summer dental tips to keep your smile bright:
- Stay hydrated: Drinking plenty of water helps wash away food particles and keeps your mouth hydrated, reducing the risk of cavities and gum disease.
- Limit sugary snacks and drinks: Ice cream, soda, and sweet treats are tempting, but can lead to tooth decay. Opt for healthier options like fresh fruits and veggies.
- Wear a mouth guard while playing outside and being active: Protect your mouth and gums from any dangers, like getting damaged by a ball or falling.
- Practice good oral hygiene: Make sure to brush your teeth twice a day for 2 minutes each time. Also, make sure to floss daily to remove any leftover food particles.
- Pack a Dental Travel Kit: When you're on the go, carry a toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss to maintain your oral hygiene routine.

Happy ! Robert Eichar is one of our outstanding Integrated Behavioral Health Providers and has been with us for over 5 months! “My favorite part about working at SNAHC is the integrated healthcare setting and how it allows me to collaborate with other providers. My patients often tell me how important and useful it is for them to see the majority of their providers in one place, which helps them feel more connected to their care. I enjoy working closely with my colleagues in other disciplines to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients,” said Robert. Thank you, Robert, for helping SNAHC bring equitable healthcare to our patients and community!
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recognize July as “UV Safety Month.” Continuous exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation can significantly increase the risk of skin cancer, premature aging, and eye damage. Protect yourself by being UV savvy when you're out in the sunshine:
- Wear a broad-spectrum (UVA & UVB) sunscreen on exposed skin.
- Sport a hat and sunglasses to shield your face and eyes.
- Regularly check your skin’s health with your doctor.
- Avoid excessive sun exposure, especially during mid-day hours.
- Remember to reapply sunscreen every two hours, or more often if swimming or sweating.
Stay safe and enjoy the sunshine responsibly!

Summertime means HEAT! To help our bodies properly cool and perform at their best, it’s important to keep well hydrated. Drinking water can do this, but did you know that foods like many fruits and vegetables have high water content and can also keep us hydrated? To stay hydrated, avoid fried foods/fast food, avoid alcohol and excess caffeine, and make sure to eat fruits and vegetables at every meal! And watch the latest episode of the Health Education Minute for tips on healthy hydrating foods.

July 7-13 is National Therapeutic Recreation Week! "Therapeutic Recreation is a person-centered approach to therapy that leans on purposeful recreation and leisure activities to support people in pursuit of their goals, whether that be recovering from physical injuries or mental health challenges. This type of treatment has been shown to have physical, social, mental, and emotional benefits. While there are numerous evidence-based approaches to therapy, not all approaches will work for everyone. This week’s awareness of Therapeutic Recreation is a good reminder that there are various forms of therapy and it’s important to explore your options to find what feels best for you and your goals. Additionally, while not everyone has access to working with a therapeutic recreational therapist, we can all be intentional about incorporating meaningful leisure activities and physical movement into our daily lives," stated SNAHC Associate Clinical Social Worker Jess Husband.

Since July 2008, National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month has been dedicated to raising awareness about the distinct challenges faced by underrepresented groups in the United States regarding mental health. This class, along with our Parenting and Depression-CBT skills groups, is inspired by Native traditions and is offered to registered SNAHC patients.
