In 2017 Civic Thread worked with community members, advocates, riders and Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT) to reimagine the Watt I-80 transit center and improve pedestrian, bicycle, and ADA access, safety, cleanliness, and the overall rider experience.

The community identified priorities are critical for the surrounding community and riders accessing jobs, housing, schools, and other destinations throughout the City and County of Sacramento. It was such a pleasure to see the start of those improvements coming to life at the groundbreaking ceremony this morning!

In 2017 we worked with community members, advocates, riders and Sacramento Regional Transit District to reimagine the Watt I-80 transit center and improve pedestrian, bicycle, and ADA access, safety, cleanliness, and the overall rider experience. We’re excited to see some of the community identified priorities coming to life as they are critical for the surrounding community and riders accessing jobs, housing, schools, and other destinations throughout the City and County of Sacramento.

Rider Reminder: Construction efforts are underway at the Watt/I-80 Transit Center. While riders will notice construction activities, bus stops will remain unaffected until mid-August 2024. Drivers can expect lane closures on Watt Avenue as crews work on replacing the Watt Avenue median. Learn more at sacrt.com/WattI80.

Want to be a Civic Thread Project Coordinator? Now is your chance! We're looking for an early-to mid-level professional interested in community-based planning, public health, active transportation, and all the justices (social, racial, environmental, and mobility). https://civicthread.org/about-us/jobs/

05/30/2024

In our region, street design prioritizes vehicular movement at the expense of human life, and that is simply unacceptable. While active transportation budgets are being slashed, our region is among the top 20 most dangerous metro areas for pedestrians and cyclists. We've said it before and here we are again, calling on our state, regional, and local decision-makers to get serious about eliminating pedestrian and cyclist fatalities NOW. https://ow.ly/WE5h50S30Az

05/25/2024

We're looking for our next awesome team member! If you or someone you know is passionate about transportation equity, community-based planning, and mobility justice, check out the link in our bio and submit your project coordinator application before June 9th, 2024! https://civicthread.org/about-us/jobs/

Today is a bittersweet day as we send off Jordan Grimaldi, Director of SRTS, to pursue a Master's degree in Urban Planning. During her time at Civic Thread, Jordan delivered Safe Routes to School programming at over 25 urban and rural suburban school sites, reaching over 3.5k K-12 students, school staff, and caregivers and enacting statistically significant increases in active modal share...the list doesn't stop there)! If you know Jordan you know that she is an absolute joy to be around, has an infectious smile, and will be dearly missed. Help us send Jordan off with a big congratulations and a round of applause!

Why do some paved sidewalks abruptly end in south Sacramento? 03/29/2024

"There's always going to be students who walk because they have to and not necessarily because they want to, and they have no choice but to navigate those areas that are missing sidewalks," said Jordan Grimaldi, director of the Civic Thread's Safe Routes to School. https://ow.ly/Ab3450R57wg

Why do some paved sidewalks abruptly end in south Sacramento? Parents in one south Sacramento neighborhood say students face a dangerous walk to school, but there could soon be a multi-million dollar fix.

Reminder: there are 4 days left to apply for the City of West Sac’s Advisory Committee to inform Comprehensive Safety Action Plan! Know someone who wants to help reduce traffic crashes in their neighborhoods? Tag a friend to apply by March 31! https://bit.ly/CAG_APP
