Check out this picture of a new Toyota Tacoma conquering a trail. Impressive, right?

But now look a bit closer at its suspension. Notice how the passenger-side wheel is compressed while the driver's side wheel is extended away from the truck's body?

It's the perfect illustration of suspension articulation -- a term used to describe the asymmetrical suspension travel as a car goes over uneven terrain. The greater the available suspension articulation, the more capable a vehicle is when it comes to scurrying over 4x4 trails.
