Do you have a hope chest that has been passed down? I have my great-grandmother’s!

A tradition that has all but disappeared . . .

A vintage advertisement for the Lane Cedar Hope Chest. These were manufactured in large quantities by The Lane Company, of Altavista, Virginia. The text of the ad states that more than 200 styles were available and priced from $15.50 and up. The cedar hope chest pictured at the top of the ad is advertised as a Valentines Special for only $27.95. This vintage ad was published in February, 1942, just as the American involvement in World War Two was getting underway.

This vintage advertisement is part of an ever expanding collection of thousands of historic photographs, images and vintage postcard views for a wide variety of topics and locations (including views from EVERY state) that can be viewed on the My Genealogy Hound website at:

A salute to all of those who have served, past or present . . .

A colorful, early postcard honoring veterans of all time periods. This date was originally celebrated as Armistice Day which marked the formal end of major hostilities in World War I which occurred "...at the eleventh hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month, 1918". In 1954, this date also became officially known as Veterans Day.

An ever expanding collection of thousands of additional historic photographs and vintage postcard views for a wide variety of topics and locations (including views from EVERY state) can be viewed on the My Genealogy Hound website at:
