Paige, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and cherished member of the community, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2024, at the age of 91. He was born on March 18, 1932, to parents Martin and Margaret Donnelly and grew up on the east side of St. Paul with his brother Gene. He attended Cretin High School, Nazareth Hall, University of St. Thomas (Accounting degree), and University of Minnesota Law School (JD). In 1963, Paige married Mary Bergford.
His work interests varied over the years as an accounting and business law professor at the University of Minnesota, stockbroker, billiard hall owner, and owner of his own law firm practicing for over 60 years. Helping the injured became one of his great passions. He received a lifetime achievement award from the Minnesota Association for Justice. He was named a "Super Lawyer" repeatedly. He deeply cared for each of his clients. He touched the lives of countless clients, leaving a lasting impact on those whom he represented and served.
His spiritual life was deep. He considered life in the priesthood before pursuing a career in law. His faith saw him through many obstacles in life, grounded him, and guided his actions and concern for others. Beyond his professional achievements, Paige will be remembered for his infectious smile and his ability to bring joy to those around him. He lived in the moment with people and gave them his undivided attention. He used his humor, often self-deprecating, to make people feel welcome, warm, and important. He had deep connections with his family, clients, employees, opposing counsel, and even workers in the skyway. Paige had a way of brightening the lives of those around him. His love knew no bounds, and his family was the cornerstone of his existence.
He relied on his Irish heritage in many ways, from faking an Irish brogue to meet his future wife, to listening to Irish songs in preparation for trials. His law firm was a staple in the St. Paul St. Patrick's Day parade for decades.
His legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will continue to live on in the hearts of his beloved wife, children, grandchildren, and all those who were touched by his kindness. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 60 years Mary; children Kevin (Beth) and Sheila (Tom); grandchildren Sarah, Courtney, Leah, Brigid, and Bailey. He is preceded in death by his father Martin Donnelly, mother Margaret Benigna Donnelly, and brother Gene Donnelly.
A celebration of Paige's life will be held on April 6th, 2024, at Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Church (1669 Arcade Street, St. Paul) with visitation 9-11 a.m., service at 11 a.m., and lunch following. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Birthright of St. Paul.
