The CEO and Founder of BeSmart Accounting, Adam Morris, presented last Friday at a Sun Leaders meeting on Radical Transparency.

Radical Transparency is all about bringing your team together by being transparent and letting them in on what is going on in your business. It allows your team to make better decisions since they will have all the relevant information. The concept is from a book written by Ray Dalio called Principles.

We had a great time at the Rowdies Game this past Saturday. The BeSmart Accounting team was invited by BayFirst to attend the Rowdies game! We were joined by local business owner Deanna Barcelona of BURGgeois who helped us cheer on the Rowdies to a 3-0 victory!

Our new logo looks amazing! I'm so happy to have a logo that truly represents the company and I will be able to build the brand on. This might not seem like the type of logo you would normally see for an accounting firm, but we aren't trying to be your typical accounting firm. Goals!!!! Having goals for your business is so important. They keep you looking forward and not behind you and focused on the task at hand. There are all types of goals that a business may set for itself. Some goals may be about your branding, some may be about hiring more employees, and some may be about opening new lines of products, but no matter what your goal is, you need to set financial goals to ensure you have the money to invest back into your business and make it the best you can.

Why did you get into business? Money, right? Even if you love taking care of your customers and helping them is the most enjoyable part of your business, you still need money to live and pay your employees.

Set financial goals for the amount of revenue you want to see to keep your business healthy and paying all of its obligations, and for the amount of profits you want to see to either reinvest or take home for your personal life. Then review those goals every month or quarter to make sure you are on track. This process will not only keep you focused on your goals, but will motivate you whether you are meeting your goals or not. If you're meeting your goals, hell yea! You'll go out there and kick even more ass because you'll be confident in yourself and your business' mission. If you're not meeting your goals, then figure out why and get back on the path and work even harder to get there.

You are the only one who can make or break your business and having these goals keep you accountable to your business and yourself. If you don't have any goals right now, that's ok. Schedule yourself an hour to think and write down those goals and then share them with your team and get their input. I got re-certified in Quickbooks Online in the beginning of May and they sent me this package. It’s a nice little token from them and I really appreciate the technology they provide with their software. Utilizing Quickbooks for my business has started to change my life. Working for myself and providing value for my clients through Quickbooks is amazing and I’m looking forward to many years to come where I can learn more and grow with their software for business owners.

Now, they just need to send better tasting cookies (they are hard as a rock lol), but I love the coffee mug. I’ll let you know if the coffee is any good.

Follow Ray Dalio for some really good insights and principles to run your life and business by.

Work is either 1) a job you do to earn the money to pay for the life you want to have or 2) what you do to achieve your mission, or some mix of the two. I urge you to make it as much 2) as possible, recognizing the value of 1). If you do that, most everything will go better than if you don’t.

This is the reality of starting a business. Takes time and patience, but it’s worth it.

If you think going into business is going to be blue skies and sunny days, you’re in for a f**king treat.

The average time it takes to build a million dollar business is 7-10 years and only 1.8% of businesses make it to 10 years. Why? Because business is hard.

The path of a business owner often starts like this:
- Uninformed Optimist: you have no clue what’s going to happen, but you're very optimistic about what you're starting
- Informed Skeptic: something comes crashing down. You realise it’s not as easy as you thought it would be.

This is where the cycle of failure starts.

You can either blame your business, your business partner, the economy and just start another business or you can realise business is a long game and have the commitment and discipline to follow through.

That's when you become an Informed Optimist and that's when you head down the path of success.
