Yesterday, the 2024 Ducks Unlimited State Convention Volunteer Celebration was held in Gainsville, GA. Your Coastal Georgia Ducks Unlimited Chapter was honored to bring home several awards for the year.

The committee was #1 in the state for all 3 categories as well a Top 10 producer overall for Georgia. One that we are extremely proud of is that we were the Top Producer for the Greenwing Event in the state this year.

We want to thank everyone for your support this year. We had a great year and we couldn’t have done it without the support of our community. We are looking forward to next year’s events.

We’d like to thank the Georgia Department of Natural Resources - Georgia DNR for allowing us to use Altama Plantation WMA for last weekend’s event. And a huge shout out to Wildlife Resources Division - Georgia DNR for hosting, providing volunteers, and getting the grounds ready for 230 kids. Also thank you to our game wardens from Law Enforcement Division - Georgia DNR for providing the safety briefing and running our gun safety station.

Once again, we want to thank all our sponsors for making our 1st Annual Brooks McDonald Greenwing Day possible. We would also like to thank everyone for coming out. We have tripled in size for this event in just over two years and we were thrilled to see all the kids enjoying the outsdoors. That’s a wrap on the First Annual Brooks McDonald Greenwing Event. After an estimated 225 kids, we’ve got our first champion, lots of winners whose dads cut their teeth at Greenwing, and our youngest winner was Brooks’ son, Cannon. Couldn’t have asked for a better event.

We’re all set for tomorrow’s event. Bring the kids & enjoy the festivities. In addition to free lunch and shirts, we’ll have a 25 round clays tournament, bounce houses, archery, game identification, gun safety, turkey shoot and 2 trap stations open to non-tournament shooters. We’ve also got lots of great raffle and auction items. The winner of this year’s event will have their name engraved on the Brooks McDonald Cup, with this being the first that we’re holding the event in Brooks’ memory.

The event will be held at Altama Plantation on Sunday March 10,2024. This free event is a great opportunity to get your kids out to learn about the outdoors and using fi****ms safely. We’ll have lunch and drinks, s***t shooting, archery, BB gun stations and lots of other fun and educational stations. All kids under 18 are welcome!

Only 2 days away from our Coastal Georgia Ducks Unlimited Banquet presented by Sapelo Equipment Company. The doors will be open at 5:30 pm on Thurs., Feb. 1st, at the Sea Palms Convention Center. All tables are sold out. Walk-ins are welcome but unfortunately it will be standing room only. We look forward to seeing everyone again this year.

To know him was to love him. Brooks was a passionate conservationist and the fearless leader of the Coastal Georgia chapter since 2014. Gone too soon. Please keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.

For those who haven’t heard, we lost our fearless leader way too early.

Brooks McDonald dedicated his entire life to serving others, and part of that was leading the Coastal Georgia DU chapter for well over a decade.

Brooks leaves behind an amazing legacy. But he also leaves behind a wonderful wife and 4 young children.

If you knew Brooks or enjoyed one of the many events that he curated over the years, donating would be a great way to show it.

Youth weekend starts tomorrow, with the first split starting next Saturday.

We hope everyone has a good and safe season on the GA coast. For those of you hunting the WMAs, please remember to only used authorized pullovers, as the areas around water controls are prone to erode if used improperly (and it’s agains the regs).

If you plan on scouting the WMAs, the newly reconstructed d**e system and binoculars are your friends. Running boats through the impounds all next week will only run the birds off and make for a bad opener.
