Huge news for home buyers. An already great FHA loan program just got better with a 30 bps decrease to monthly mortgage insurance. This equates to nearly $100 in monthly savings on average loan amounts.
Don’t forget- an FHA loan can be used to purchase a 1-4 unit property with just 3.5% down.
Discount points are fees that you pay to your lender upfront, in exchange for a lower interest rate. By paying discount points you can lower your monthly mortgage payment because you are affectively paying a portion of your interest upfront. Discount points, like mortgage interest, are tax deductible in most cases if you itemize your deductions.
