Yesterday, the FDA released a new draft guidance for plant-based milk alternatives (PBMA). If finalized, the guidance could require labeling changes for PBMAs, including a dagger symbol to notify consumers of the different nutritional content compared to traditional milk. The FDA is seeking public comment on a new proposed draft guidance to create a Front-Of-Package (FOP) label scheme for food products. The updated label would complement the Nutrition Facts panel on a food product, but is aimed at helping consumers more easily find foods that are part of a healthy eating pattern. You can leave a comment from today until 3/27/2023 on the Federal Register.
Procedural Notice on Consumer Research on Front-of-Package Labeling FDA has issues a 60-day procedural notice on its plans to conduct a study entitled “Quantitative Research on Front of Package Labeling on Packaged Foods.”
The FDA has released a major press announcement for the CBD cannabis market, which includes a rejected petition to market CBD products as dietary supplements: "FDA Concludes that Existing Regulatory Frameworks for Foods and Supplements are Not Appropriate for Cannabidiol, Will Work with Congress on a New Way Forward."

Major labeling news just dropped from the USDA and FSIS! On the Federal Register, the USDA published a final rule discontinuing the review of generically approved labels and expanding the circumstances for FSIS generically approved labels of meat, poultry, and egg products.
