On October 22, we hosted our quarterly Executive Leadership Council (ELC) luncheon at Roth's Fresh Markets, where we received updates from state legislators, the City of Salem, Salem-Keizer Public Schools, Marion and Polk County Commissioners, and on The Forge project at the old Liberty Plaza in downtown Salem. The meeting also gave our attendees a chance to meet new Salem Fire Chief David Gerboth.

On October 4, we celebrated the ribbon-cutting for Empower ATA Martial Arts - Lancaster, the martial arts school's new location at 156 Lancaster Dr. SE!
Owned and operated by Master Carson Clews and his family, the school offers both youth and adult programs designed to boost confidence, focus, and fitness while teaching trainees incredible martial arts skills. This is Empower ATA's second location, adding to the existing school in Keizer.

Each candidate delivered opening and closing statements, responded to questions containing issues of great importance to businesses, and asked their respective opponent one question each.

At our monthly Business Advocacy Meeting on October 10, we heard from two state representatives (one in favor of and one opposed to Measure 117) about the ballot measure that proposes a ranked-choice voting system for state elections in Oregon.

The meeting educated attendees about the measure and the concept of ranked-choice voting, which has been instituted in other states and local municipalities in recent years. Our guest speakers lent their perspectives, and shared case studies, as well as the reasoning behind their stances on this measure.
