Did you know that Oregon was the first state to declare LABOR DAY an official holiday? We are proud of that heritage, and proud of our hard working team. We use today to celebrate our practicing physicians and staff and those who paved the way before them.

One year ago today, we launched our healthcare careers exploration website at the Oregon State Fair. Across the eleven-day span, we spoke with thousands of families about job opportunities to be considered in the healthcare field and how to get into them. Continuing to build this site and reaching out to area youth is a passion project for our team. Cheers to one year in the books and many more to come! Loretta began her Salem Clinic career in 1998 as a Medical Assistant. Along the way, she completed an LPN program and has provided nursing services to our patients from every Clinic location and nursing department. Loretta is very smart and deeply caring; she is great nurse and we are proud to have her on our team!

Present day, Loretta works on our care coordination team performing outreach to patients with recent hospital discharges. She coordinates follow-up visits, home health services and a variety of resources to help those in need.

Away from the Clinic, Loretta is a proud mother of two young adults, who have also chosen healthcare careers. She also loves horror movies and has a passion for traveling the world alongside her husband of 34 years, Jesse.

On this National Relaxation Day, we encourage you to slow down and unwind. It's a day to focus on taking care of yourself and taking a moment to relax.

Elgie has been a part of or Health Information Management team since 1998. As a Records Specialist II, she processes Advance Directives and POLST forms. She also indexes various patient record types, sends out records, delivers interoffice mail and helps to answer department phones.

When Elgie was asked what she likes best about working at Salem Clinic, she shared “the people I work with.” She considers the Clinic a second home. Her team deeply cares for one-another and they always help out when someone is in need. While Elgie does not often interact with patients face-to-face in her role, she does enjoy it when she gets to. She loves to help people and finds the medical field interesting and rewarding.

Elgie was born and raised in the Philippines. She maintains a connection to her roots through cultural dance and calls home to her father each week. Elgie loves to travel and has a passion for fashion. She has, so far, enjoyed most the beauty of Switzerland and jewelry stores of Dubai. Elgie is grateful to share her life with a wonderful husband, four adult children, two grandchildren and a Siberian Husky named Tundra.

Elgie is a delight to have on our team; we are happy that she has made her second home with us for so long. Cheers to Elgie!

Our SC teams answered the call for how many different SC t-shirts could be captured in one photo. The shirts were from volunteer events, kickball, softball, service campaigns, EHR training, the diabetes health fair, our healthcare careers website, fundraiser tee's and more! Go SC teams!

The Salem Clinic team had a successful blueberry pick with Salem Harvest on Saturday morning! 594 pounds of ripe berries rescued and donated to families in need.

We were so excited for the Olympics, we held our OLYMPICNIC and games early! Cheers to our Team SC and Team USA athletes!

Sara works on our cross-sectional anatomy (CT & MRI) team in our imaging department. Sara came to Salem Clinic, first as a clinical intern for MRI in 2017. When asked what she likes best about working at Salem Clinic, Sara quickly said “no call, no weekends.” She also really enjoys the small, close knit team that she works with. Sara shared that the best part of her days at the Clinic are when she can help patients find answers for their pain. She likes advocating for patients and communicating with their doctors for them to get answers. Sara enjoys how kind and open our doctors are; “you don’t have to walk on eggshells here; everyone is on the same team helping patients.”

When asked what others may be surprised to learn about her, Sara shared that she has won competitions for welding, bit-sharpening and biggest fish. Sara also shared that she loves cooking and baking. She wanted to be a chef, but was dissuaded due to the instability of the industry. Sara is currently into “new age homesteading”, including canning and preserving food. She also enjoys time with her pets. Sara has two yellow labs, Finn & River; and three cats, Rogue, Captain Bubbles, and Whisker Jelly.

When Sara is not at the Clinic scanning patients, Sara is an avid outdoorswoman, with passions for fishing and rescuing animals.

Meet Susan. Susan is our OB/GYN Surgery Scheduler. In her role, Susan, monitors the baby delivery log, subsequently canceling remaining prenatal appointments, or scheduled deliveries for those mothers. She schedules surgeries, pre-op and post-op visits; she opens and closes physician schedules; and aligns everything with the on-call calendar. Susan also enters surgical referrals and coordinates operating room times with the hospital and other surgery centers.

At the urging of multiple family members in the Clinic’s employ at the time, Susan joined the Salem Clinic family in 1989. First in medical records, and then several subsequent roles in admitting, the call center and elsewhere in the patient service department. With more than 35 years of service, Susan currently holds the 2nd longest length of service amongst the current team. The all-time record, will take some more years to beat; and we all will be lucky to keep her here long enough to do it. Cheers to Susan and her dedication in service to our patients!

Three local students with interest in healthcare careers started their summer internships today! They will be working on projects in imaging, nursing and health information management. They will also job shadow in the roles of most interest to them. Welcome to the team Dima, Krystal and Sandy!

We are proud to share Dr. Ryan Cooley has been voted Best Doctor (silver) for a second year in a row, and third time since joining Salem Clinic in 2010! Dr. Cooley practices family medicine at the Salem Clinic - South clinic location .

Sophie, future surgeon, is spending summer 2024 as an intern at Salem Clinic. She is working on public health campaigns and job shadowing with physicians, surgeons and other clinical teams. We welcome students at all levels to come in and check out healthcare career options.

Urgent Care scheduling now available. No need to come in early and wait, nor pick-up a reservation ticket in advance. Current Salem Clinic patients can schedule via MyChart or by calling 503-399-2424 between 7:30am and 5pm on weekdays. The Boone Road urgent care clinic is open M-F 10-7 and weekends 10-4. The Capitol Street urgent care is open M-F 10-7 and weekends 10-5.
