Some of us haven't seen any rainfall yet this month, but our rain chances return next week. Multiple rounds of thunderstorms are possible beginning Sunday night and lasting much of the week.

Multiple chances of showers and thunderstorms exist beginning Sunday and continuing into next week. There is a lot of uncertainty with respect to the timing and placement of each round. Temperatures Friday through Saturday will be well-below normal, with highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s. These readings are more typical of mid/late September than early August. Humidity levels will also be very low, aiding the fall-like feel.

Temperatures will climb back to near normal today before another cold front will usher in below normal temperatures for the weekend. Other than a few sprinkles over the area today and tonight and a chance of showers on Sunday, the weather is expected to be dry this weekend.

Clouds will clear tonight and that will set the stage for some patchy fog. A brief warm-up to near normal temperatures will occur on Thursday, however a cold front passage will result in cooler, and below normal temperatures Friday into the weekend.

The cooler and less humid weather is expected to last into the weekend. The next chance of rain will be on Sunday when there will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms over parts of central and southeast Missouri.

A dry cold front is moving through the forecast area today bringing cooler, dry air into the region. These cool and dry conditions will stick around through the weekend, making it feel more like early September than early August!

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

*Drink plenty of fluids, stay in a air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
*Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.
*Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
*Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible.
*To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. *Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
*Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

A cold front will move through the region Tuesday and Tuesday evening putting an end to the dangerous heat and ushering in cooler and less humid air. Temperatures starting Wednesday will be much cooler, and below normal temperatures will continue through the end of the week.

High temperatures will be well into the 90s today and Tuesday ahead of a cold front with heat indices around 100 degrees both days. Temperatures will drop back down to near or below normal the rest of the week. Drink plenty of water and take frequent breaks in the shade.

Summer heat will persist through Tuesday with high temperatures largely in the 90s F and heat index values up to 100ºF, but we will be jumping into cooler temperatures during the second half of the week with high temperatures near or below average.

1. The Salem Department of Emergency Management covers everything inside the city limits of Salem. The Emergency Management's primary goal is to keep the Emergency Operations Plan for the City of Salem up to date, assist local fire, police, and EMS with their duties, help managing operations for any natural disaster or large-scale incident, and educate and inform the public on all aspects of safety. We also work alongside the schools and education centers in our town for emergency planning and preparation.

2. The Marion County Fairgrounds is County property and just happens to be in the city limits of Salem. That means the Marion County Sheriff's Department and Marion County ESDA are in charge of handling anything on the grounds.
