The Salem Ferry opens for the season today! If you are visiting us this season, consider taking the ferry to Salem and skip the rental car. While staying with us, take the ferry into Boston and enjoy all New England's largest city has to offer. We had only five weeks after his congestive heart failure diagnosis. He told us over the last couple days that it was time. I let him chew on some grass and soak up the sun today. We are heartbroken. Blakey was such a special, snuggly cat. I'll miss giving him his requested morning cuddles. We will love him forever.

We'd like to introduce you to our newest family member, Clifford! He's a lilac point Siamese and he's a little spitfire! He's named for the tremendous trumpet player Clifford Brown, who was a helluva nice guy.

Normally this would be an odd time to add to our feline family, but we wanted our new cat to get to know Blakey before it's too late, so we can look upon him in the future and remember Blakey giving him a smack or their playing together, to "continue the thread" of cats, if that makes sense. It helps us remember our much-missed cats while loving our current ones.

We received some upsetting news this weekend about our dear cat Blakey, and we wanted to let you all know, as we know you love him too. We found him on Bobby's bed Saturday evening struggling to breathe and we rushed him to the 24-hour veterinary hospital in Woburn. They admitted him and put him in their oxygen cage and ran some tests. He has congestive heart failure. The oxygen and some medicine reduced some of the fluid around his lungs, and we were able to bring him home after two days. We're all happy he's home, but we were told he has only 6-12 months of quality life if we're lucky. So we're going to give him all the love and spend all the time with him that we can. And we know you will want to give him your love too!

10 years ago today, April 11, 2014, we opened our tenure at The Stepping Stone Inn. We are the 9th owners of this historic 1846 building and are proud custodians of its legacy. Everybody knows we have the best location in Salem, with beautiful views of the Salem Common and centuries-old houses. A lesser-known view is this: Pennywise gets dressed near the Inn from the back of a car. I overheard him say in his broad Massachusetts (or is it Maine? 🤔) accent it's really crazy out there. If Pennywise thinks it's too crazy in downtown Salem, it must be true!

I'm proud to announce that the Stepping Stone Inn has won the Salem Park & Recreation Women's Volleyball Champions for 2023! We had so much fun and played great all season long. Let's do it again next year!

We're blown away by our past guests Bri & Nick! Here's the story: Back in May 2021, they were checking out at the same time Bobby was playing with his brand new Koopa figure from Super Mario Brothers. Completely unprompted, Bobby asked them if they'd like to have him to play with, and they said they'd take him on their adventures and send him back well-traveled. And just today Bobby received this incredible care package in the mail with a couple gifts, this spectacular book of his travels and of course, Koopa himself. Bobby, and Matt and I, are just floored. And thrilled! Thank you Bri & Nick! You've made a little boy, and his parents, so happy and grateful! We have the best guests here at the Inn!

Last-minute cancellations have opened up availability for this week. We have rooms open from Monday, the 17th to Friday, the 21st. We'd love a three night stay, but will take a two-nighter this week. Come stay right in the heart of downtown Salem and experience the action firsthand. We're so close to everything, you can stop in for a bathroom break, a respite or to drop off shopping bags. We're excited to welcome back some wonderful guests as well as make some new friends as we open for the 2022 season. This is our 9th season as innkeepers in Salem and we're ready as the house turns 176 years old. Come visit us this year and stay in the heart of Salem and a short walk to all the sights and attractions. You won't even need a car! Blakey and Sonny (the inn cats) are ready for pets and snuggles and Bobby (5 years old) has plenty of restaurants to recommend. October is almost completely booked up already but one room remains for the first weekend (Sept 30-Oct 2) and there are still a few weekdays available.
