AVHS is excited to return to the Comanche Drive-In to bring the community a special showing of the heartwarming film Balto on Wednesday, July 31st starting at dusk, approximately 8:30 p.m. (doors open at 7:30 p.m.)

You can pre-order your tickets at https://www.ark-valley.org/drive-in/ or purchase them the night of the event. All are welcome, including dogs! Adult tickets are $10, children’s tickets (3-13) are $5 and ages 2 and under are free.

Our FIRST EVER Free Community Microchip and Pet ID Tag Clinic is just one week away! To make the day even more special we're reducing ALL adoption fees by 50%!

We hope you can join us on Sunday, July 21st, from 12-3PM for free microchips and pet ID tags, all are welcome!

In 2023 Ark-Valley Humane Society helped reunite 185 lost animals with their families. Pets who came in with up-to-date ID tags and/or microchips were able to go home sooner. One of the first things AVHS staff is trained to do when a lost animal arrives at the shelter is check for ID tags and scan for a microchip.

We hope by offering this clinic even more pets will have up-to-date tags and microchips so that lost pets can be quickly reunited with their loving families.

We ask that you bring cats in a carrier and your dogs on a leash. When you first arrive please leave your pets in the car and check in at the outdoor table near the front door so that staff may instruct you where to go from there. There will be an outdoor area with water bowls for friendly dogs.

The Heart of the Rockies Chamber of Commerce welcomed Phytology Flowers into our membership with a ribbon cutting presentation.

Phytology Flowers is a sustainable florist and flower farm in Salida. The owner and lead designer, Hannah Upham, LPC, ATR, HTR, uses her background in horticulture, art, flower design, and counseling to help people choose unique eco-conscious flowers for their wedding or special event. Hannah is also a licensed professional counselor in the State of Colorado, and a nationally registered art therapist and horticultural therapist.

In addition to creating arrangements for events and weddings, Phytology Flowers offers subscription flowers in the summer and has ready-made bouquets available in a cooler at Salida Garden Supply. Hannah has plans to expand into online retail sales along with farm days, therapy groups, youth gardens, and classes soon.

The wedding, farm and counseling services are a safe and welcoming zone for LGBTQ+, and members of all races, abilities, religions, and genders. Hannah uses sustainable practices at the farm, growing seasonal flowers and plants, composting all plant waste, and utilizing thrifted and recycled containers.

Ark Valley Helping Hands is calling on all community members to make a difference this summer by volunteering for their clean-up initiative! Help support older adults in our community by assisting with yard work. There are 20 identified homes that need help, and they are counting on amazing volunteers like you to step up.

Why Volunteer? Many older adults face challenges in maintaining their gardens and outdoor spaces, which can affect their safety and overall well-being. By volunteering for tasks such as mowing lawns, raking leaves, and trimming bushes, you not only improve their living environments but also provide much-needed social interaction and support.

The Maverick Potter has been named the Heart of the Rockies Chamber of Commerce July Business of the Month for their passion for their craft, support of local artists, and for inspiring creativity and sustainability within our community.

Since opening their doors in May of 2008, Mark and Suzanne Rittmann have held an unwavering dedication to the pottery tradition. Mark’s passion for clay was inspired by his college studies in Ecuador, where he learned the art from a native potter. Inspired by the alchemy of taking the earth, and forming it, applying heat, and creating a pot, activated a lifelong devotion to creating pottery for the Rittmann’s. It is Mark’s hope that the care and energy which he puts into his pottery can help to “connect people to the earth, to the art of the handmade, and the tradition of artisanship”.

Throughout their many years of being in business in Downtown Salida, The Maverick Potter has been a staple stop for locals and visitors alike. Their bright gallery beckons passersby into the store, who are then captivated by the carefully crafted ceramics. The Maverick Potter not only supplies work by Mark Rittmann, but also represents over 24 local and regional artists. The gallery is an environmentally friendly business and uses solar power to produce 90% of the needs for their electric kiln. If you are a community member who is interested in ceramics, The Maverick Potter offers classes of all levels.

Along with teaching pottery classes to aspiring learners, The Maverick Potter does a great deal to support our local community, including donating to the HRRMC Foundation, and supporting summer parks and recreation classes, the ShedFest and Guidestone pumpkin patch. The Maverick Potter has given back to many chamber events, including our recent Shop Local Scavenger Hunt, where The Maverick Potter served as one of participating pilot businesses. For the second year, The Maverick Potter is traveling down to Larkspur, Colorado on the weekends, to lead ceramics demonstrations at the Renaissance Festival.

Ark Valley Voice launches "Christmas in July" the largest fund drive of the year for Ark Valley Voice. They call it “Christmas in July" not just because of the time of year, but because they both thank their readers and supporters and ask for their help as this marks the beginning of our fiscal year. Ark Valley Voice has fun with the effort, but the cause is serious.

As a nonprofit local news organization focused on fact-based, unbiased, investigative reporting, they aren’t in this for the money. Ark Valley Voice is here to give truth a voice. Ark Valley Voice's giving goal for this Christmas in July giving month is $30,000 and it is much needed to see us through the coming months. Inaugural Chalk Fest presents more than 60 artists The inaugural Salida Chalk Festival filled up Sackett Avenue June 29, and although rain washed away the art in the afternoon, many pieces were completed.

Reopened under new ownership in May 2024, the Rocky Mountain Clubhouse is a fun-filled destination offering a challenging 18-hole mini golf course amidst a breathtaking botanical garden. They have a variety of snacks, drinks, and adult beverages available and a beautiful outdoor patio.

Please submit your pie on Wednesday, July 3 at the Mixing Bowl no later than 4pm. All entries should have the kind of pie, your name and contact information on the bottom of your pie dish.
