My favorite is the Grinch, 💚specifically the Jim Carrey version because he is so relatable and just like him I am trying to enjoy Christmas for the experiences more than the gifts.🎁

Wilder Child

This is likely the last image of my bike beside a Vermont library I’ll post this season. And so I chose this beauty, though shuttered, for the finale. I love libraries, beacons of light in a world that often is dark. And, these days, libraries are as important as ever, protecting free speech — including three of my challenged novels — the vitality of multigenerational spaces, programming for everybody, and critical support for underserved communities. Libraries rock; librarians rule. My deepest thanks to librarians everywhere.

Most book sales are run by little old ladies who have a love for the sharing of great books! You have to have a strong back and stamina!

My mom. Here she is at 90, buying books at the Niagara Falls Book Riot. When I was a kid, she started the used book sale in support of Women's Place of South Niagara Inc., which provides shelter and treatment for abused women. She ran the sale for 10 years, a huge undertaking involving 100+ volunteers (including me). Year 1, the sale earned $400. Year 10, it earned $19,000. This year, it earned a whopping $93,000! And no doubt the Book Riot—the many books I bought and read—played a role in shaping me as a reader and a novelist. Take a bow, Mom. What a legacy!
