FALLING LIKE DOMINOES.
New York has fallen.
If you live in New York, you might just want to go to New Jersey for your medical care.
In New Jersey, medical credentials must be disclosed by law, so you know exactly who is giving you medical care. But in New York, now the 25th state to grant full practice authority to nurse practitioners- to practice medicine without physician oversight- patients will not be so lucky. The politicians in New York have failed the people of New York.
Here's what we know from the data.
>>Expanding the scope of practice for nurse practitioners leads to higher costs and reduced safety for patients who are better served by an integrated care team led by a physician whose education and training requirements far exceeds those of other health professionals.

We live in a free country and many of us get to choose the clinician we want to provide our healthcare. Unfortunately, figuring out the training oof the "healthcare provider" taking care of you has become increasingly difficult thanks in part to new degree types and also everyone now being called a "provider."
If you were at a doctor's office and Dr. Pyles-Sweet" (see picture below) introduced herself, you would likely assume she is a medical doctor. But she's not. She is a physician assistant with a doctorate in "Medical Science" that can be earned in about a year and a half, all online, after getting a physician assistant degree.
Lawyers have doctorates too, but they don't introduce themselves as "doctor" in medical settings. The qualifications of your healthcare practitioner need to be presented in a way that is clear. Some states have passed truth and transparency laws to limit the use of the term "doctor" in clinical settings to those who have doctorates in Medicine (i.e. MD or DO degrees). In other states, nurses with doctorates in nursing practice (DNP) can introduce themselves to patients as "Dr.", but they are legally required to then explicitly state they are a nurse.
Neither the doctorate of nursing practice (DNP) nor the doctorate of medical science (DMSc) degrees are medical degrees. Both take about 1.5 years to complete after receiving an NP or PA degree, many can be done 100% online, and neither is necessarily clinical. Many focus on healthcare administration, not hands-on clinical practice.
Physicians train for 3-7 years in supervised, more-than-full-time apprenticeship called residency. This occurs after the 4-year doctorate in Medicine (MD/DO) is earned and ensures this person has the clinical skills to be a medical doctor AND practice safely without supervision.
If someone introduces herself or himself as "Dr." So-and-so at your medical appointment, a simple question to ask to figure ou whether they are a MEDICAL doctor is to ask, "Are you a physician?" The term physician is synonymous with "medical doctor." These days, all doctors in medical settings are not medical doctors, but you can be assured that all "physicians" are medical doctors. Clinicians who hold DNP or DMSc degrees are important members of physician-led healthcare teams.

Build a Bond
As part of the volunteer training we may verify veteran status by verifying; branch, rank, service
dates or combat experience. We will also require volunteers to follow organizational policies
and to undergo a routine screening for possible PTSD difficulties. A bond between members of
the military is special, in that you can comfortably share and better understand each other’s
experiences.
Veteran volunteers can often empathize in ways other hospice team or family members cannot.
If you are a veteran who is interested in providing support for our aging heroes or know of a
