For immediate release - 45th Annual Cowboy Breakfast Announcement
(November 17, 2022) – San Antonio, TX – The 45th Annual Cowboy Breakfast tentatively scheduled for January 27th, 2023, may not be happening.
Due to the current state of the economy, The Cowboy Breakfast Foundation is announcing today that the 45th Annual Cowboy Breakfast is in jeopardy of being canceled. Unfortunately, we have not been able to meet our fundraising goal. Due to increased expenses, and less donations, this beloved San Antonio tradition, that has been enjoyed by thousands, is at risk.
The Cowboy Breakfast has for the last 44 years been a FREE event for the City of San Antonio providing a family friendly early morning way to kick off the Rodeo season. Costs and logistics to produce the event have increased significantly. Without our donor sponsors we cannot continue for 2023. The Cowboy Breakfast is a non-profit organization that produces the event and net proceeds have been donated to the St. Phillips College – Tourism, Hospitality & Culinary Arts Programs. In the last 20 years, we have donated over $250,000 to the scholarship fund.
How you can help - call for Sponsors: If you or your organization is interested in pulling together with us to make the 2023 event happen, please reach out to Board President, Brad Dietrich at (210) 416-4787 or Vice-Chair, Chuck Christian at (210) 316-0588.
Additionally, we are announcing a GoFundMe https://gofund.me/de372f5e for this event. San Antonio Cowboy Breakfast Challenge – if you or your family have ever enjoyed a free breakfast taco from one of our events over the last 44 years, please consider donating to the GoFundMe we’ve set up to try and keep the 2023 event alive. If we do not meet our fundraising goal, net proceeds will be donated directly to the St. Phillip College programs.
The Cowboy Breakfast was initially started to feed the multiple trail ride groups, leaving with a bit of appreciation from our breakfast to their various points to begin their trail rides to promote the San Antonio Stockshow & Rodeo. They saddled up to ride out with a full belly, knowing we cared about their trek horseback across Texas. It developed over the years to a family tradition of early morning breakfast with family and friends at various locations around San Antonio. Many San Antonians view the Cowboy Breakfast as “the” event that gets them ready for Rodeo.
The Cowboy Breakfast is 100% Free and 100% driven by sponsors & volunteers. The Cowboy Breakfast is the only FREE event during Rodeo season and can only happen thru the generous donations from our sponsors and gracious volunteers from the community, Cowboy Breakfast and St. Phillip’s College Culinary program that are willing to get up very early to make the World’s Largest Breakfast for as many as 30,000! (Recognized by Guinness World Records)

Cowboy Breakfast fans - For the past 42 years, we've had hundreds of volunteers gather in the wee hours of the morning to serve a traditional San Antonio-style chuckwagon breakfast to thousands, but in order to observe the City of San Antonio's Covid guidelines, we are changing the way Cowboy Breakfast will serve the community in 2021 and we will not be hosting our large scale event. Instead, together with our sponsors & partners we will honor those that serve our community and those that are most in need with special breakfast deliveries on Friday. Additionally, we will continue the tradition of supporting education thru scholarship by donating $5000 to the St. Phillip's Culinary Arts Program.
We love y’all and will see you in 2022 :)
Merry Christmas y’all! Here’s hoping your boots are filled with peace and happiness as we celebrate the season!
