The Alamo 🎉 celebrated the Construction Kickoff Ceremony for the new Alamo Visitor Center and Museum today! Special guests like Lt. Governor Dan Patrick and San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg attended, with a performance by Fort Sam’s Own 323d Army Band Brass Quintet 🎶. Staff from The Menger and Crockett Hotels were also present to sign a scroll ✍️, memorializing their attendance—this scroll will be displayed in the museum when it is slated to open in 2027 🏛️. This milestone marks the start of a world-class facility that will preserve 300 years of history 📜.

A HUGE clan of Davy Crockett Descendants & Kin are coming to explore what's new around Alamo Plaza next week!
From the press release:
"...About 150 members of the Direct Descendants and Kin of David Crockett will attend another family reunion in San Antonio on July 18-20, 2024. They will be conducting their three-day activities at the historic Crockett and Menger hotels next to the Alamo.
It will also be the first time that many Crockett descendants will be seeing the new historic exhibits that interpret the original boundary of the mission-turned-fortress.

“We’re thrilled to be surrounded by so much important history here in Alamo Plaza,” said Mike Long, president of the Crockett family organization. “The transformation taking place at the Alamo has been on everyone’s mind and we look forward to finally experiencing it as a group.”

Most of the Crockett family will be staying at the Historic Crockett Hotel which has also been greatly transformed with an array of museum-quality exhibits, murals, and banners. The adjacent Menger Hotel will be hosting meetings and the Saturday night banquet. “Having this large Crockett clan in our hotels makes for a perfect historic gathering,” said Garvin O’Neil, General Manager for both the Menger and Crockett. “Our guests and staff appreciate the positive atmosphere and energy from these historic families and it’s great to see the Crockett family returning to San Antonio.”
