A lot goes on around the Archdiocese. One of the places I love ministering is Padua Place, the assisted living facility for our retired priests. In January, the priests hosted our Seminarians for an evening of prayer, dinner and discussion! Bishop Gary Janak presided, and several other retired priests were in attendance. Jose Castillo, the Director of Music and Liturgy at St. Anthony de Padua Parish and Mary Jane Quintero, cantor at Blessed Sacrament Parish (and manager at Padua Place) led the sung prayer…
The San Antonio Archdiocean choir comprises voices and musicians from around the Archdiocese. The choir sings for a variety of events, for example: Ordinations of priests and deacons, annual Lumen Gentium celebration, the annual Chrism Mass, Rites of Election and many more!
Your voice will make a difference! And everyone is welcome, regardless of how well you read music. And you can participate in as much as you would like.
Consider joining the choir! For more information, call the Archdiocesan Office of Worship @ 210-734-2610 and speak with Dr. Dolores Martinez!
Every year, the National Association of Pastoral Musicians offers a convention filled with opportunities to engage, learn and discuss liturgy and music! This year’s convention promises to be an incredible experience with speakers, song and prayer from a variety of cultures. For the first time in a long time, the National Convention will be held west of the Mississippi and for the first time in Reno, Nevada!
The Archdiocese can help with registration through the Department of Pastoral Ministries. Many have taken advantage of the “third-third-third” plan which means that the Archdiocese would cover registration, the parish plane or hotel and the participant the rest. Some are fortunate to have the costs covered by their parish. Some simply take the opportunity to attend on their own. However you can make this happen, do it! You will not be left disappointed! Meet directly with composers, publishers, liturgists. Meet with your fellow music ministers from your region as well as nationally.
And there is a way to attend virtually and the Archdiocese can help with registration!

Many of us know Flora Torres, a longtime member of the Music Ministry at San Fernando Cathedral as well as the Archdiocesan Choir. Flora suffers from Liver Cancer and this is an opportunity for us to come together as a community to support her ongoing struggle! The food at Las Chiladas is great! Bring your fellow music ministers and be prepared to laugh and benefit Flora at the same time!
