Darrell R. Black ~ August 26, 1964 - June 15, 2021
To say he was a good man would be an understatement. His golden heart shined brightly. His laughter was contagious and always seemed to bring a smile to the face of anyone who heard it. His kindness was moving. He had a deep passion and genuine joy for doing the work he loved.
Darrell dedicated most of his life to creating change within his own community. He helped to establish and manage multiple Afterschool programs in San Bernardino. He invested in, shared his knowledge and mentored many of the employees he supervised. Darrell joined Team PLI in 2013 as our Director of Community Outreach. During his 5 year tenure with PLI he expanded the PATH Food Distribution Program to include clothing and hygiene essentials. He was instrumental in facilitating PLI's partnership with the Fifth Street Senior Center, which would later become the location our distribution was held. He established PLI's dance and Karate classes that were offered at low cost to the community. He also assisted in overseeing PLI's Afterschool programs and the daily operations of our organization. Darrell's contributions to PLI were invaluable.
Darrell Black had a big heart, giving nature and selflessly served his community. His IMPACT on the lives of literally thousands of students and people in San Bernardino will be the legacy he is remembered for. He will be missed dearly.
