On July 26, 2023, the IE Communications Hub interviewed the recently announced executive director of the Inland Empire Youth Immigrant Collective (IEIYC), Angel Fajardo, on how the IEIYC has shaped and has been crucial in creating a space for immigrant youth in the Inland Empire region.
The Inland Empire Youth Immigrant Collective was founded in 2010 to create a safe space for immigrant youth to achieve their full potential, as there are many obstacles to being an immigrant in the region. Through their grassroots efforts, the IEIYC has engaged youth to access higher education, professional development, and empowerment through their communities. Their vision has always been to empower youth through a region-focused lens to achieve social equality, dignity, inclusivity, and respect.
IEIYC has been advocating and supporting immigrant youth in the region for over 10 years. Since 2010, they have supported DACA students with their paperwork, provided the necessary resources through workshops that youth need to build their leadership skills, and offered rapid response when ICE and CBP have been present in the region.

Due to historical racist practices, the issue of pushout, and the disproportionate treatment of Black students in this country, in the state, and in this region, COPE recognizes the urgency of addressing disparities in our schools at this moment. Achieving this goal will require the collective efforts of students, parents, community-based organizations (CBOs), school districts, Black churches, and other stakeholders to prevent a regression to a historical era. We understand that we cannot accomplish this alone. Follow the info below to attend this conversation below. ⬇️

As we gather in gratitude during this season of thanks, let us reflect on the words of Psalms 136:1: "Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!" In our expressions of gratitude, let us also acknowledge and honor our First Nation brothers and sisters, whose rich heritage and wisdom have shaped the lands we call home. We remember those who were stolen to work the land of the First Nation people, recognizing the painful history that unfolded. As we give thanks for the blessings we enjoy, may we also commit ourselves to fostering understanding, respect, and justice. This season is an opportunity to celebrate the diverse tapestry of our shared history, acknowledging the contributions of all who have shaped this land. Let us give thanks not only in words but also in deeds, striving to build a future marked by compassion, unity, and reconciliation.

Igniting Dreams Inland Empire Organization Empowers the Leaders of Tomorrow, Today
Inland Empire, CA - Youth Mentoring Action Network (YMAN) is actively creating space for youth to make impactful decisions and inviting youth into rooms where they were not welcomed before.
In 2007 former teacher Dr. TorieWeiston-Serdan began to endeavor past lesson plans, curricula, and the whiteboard and into creating a space for youth to have the same opportunities she had in her upbringing. YMAN came out of community need, Dr. Torie did not foresee opening the doors to a nonprofit, but recognized youth need more than tutoring and began to develop the approach to support the whole child. This approach included academics, but focused on empowerment, leadership, and internal growth.
Dr. Torie shares a story of how they became the only community benefit organization to receive ongoing sponsorship from a large entity here in the Inland Empire. The youth that YMAN serve came to this meeting with leaders from that entity and told their story, discussed their initiatives, and in this meeting embodied all that YMAN stands for. This is how YMAN received this achievement. This method was unheard of and became the model for this entity to do business with any other organization, prospective organizations must have the youth they serve present. YMAN found themselves setting the standard- setting the bar.
“The goal is to transform communities and also future communities, young people first and foremost, specifically young people who are the most marginalized” said Dr. Torie, Chief Visionary Officer at Youth Mentoring Action Network.
