Calling out all car lovers! This month our paired dinner honors two great pioneers: Ford and Ferrari. I read the menu and I hear the roar of the Ferrari Enzo engine but at the same time I remember the 1967 Lotus Ford Cosworth. If in the US, in 1955, you could cruise. On the Thunderbird listening to rock around the clock, Ferrari was working on the 250 Testarossa that came out in 1957 when people were falling in love at the sound of Only You… epic cars, epic times and epic dinner on March 30th to celebrate both. Great dinner last night at Pronto prepared by chef Adriano: scallop in lemon juice, oysters from Pacific Northwest with two unexpected sauces, amazingly fresh and flavorful farmer salad made with local production, scallop, shrimp, lobster ravioli in a bagna cauda sauce, puffy fritters with a chocolate and strawberry sauce. All of this with a nice selection of Italian wines. Can't wait for next month!

You hear Sangiovese and you think of Tuscany, Chianti, the amazing winery you visited…I don’t want to be partial, well maybe a bit, but Sangiovese is not really Tuscan, recent DNA studies have shown that it is a natural cross between two southern Italian varietals and it has kinship with several other southern Italian grapes!

In Northern Italy, the Barolo and Barbaresco wine area together is a total of approximately 6827 acres, a bit more than half the size of the city of San Clemente (12000 acres). The Italian region, is so geologically diversified that in such a small area there are 181 different wine zones because the soil changes so much that the same grape varietal will produce a diversity of wines because of the soil it feeds on. Isn't it amazing?
