ADDITIONAL 17AUG2024 SEFSD ELECTROGLIDE & OPEN FLYING PHOTOS!
Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the August SEFSD Club contest, the RC Airplane Limbo!
We’re thrilled to have you participate in an exhilarating display of skill, precision, and a touch of daring as pilots guide their RC planes under the limbo ribbon. This month, we’re not just witnessing incredible flying talent, but also paying homage to the rich cultural tradition that inspired this event.
The limbo dance originated in Trinidad in the 1950s, deeply rooted in Caribbean culture. Traditionally, it’s a dance where participants bend backward to pass under a gradually lowered bar, all while keeping their balance and not touching the ground. The limbo represents overcoming challenges, with dancers contorting their bodies to squeeze under the bar, defying what seems physically possible. The lower the bar, the greater the thrill—both for the dancer and the audience.
Much like the limbo dance, today’s RC airplane limbo contest challenges pilots to push the boundaries of what their planes can do. The objective is simple yet demanding: fly your plane under the limbo bar, which will be lowered with each successful pass. The last pilot standing—or rather, flying—wins!
Regulations for this month's Contest:
Aircraft Specifications: Only standard RC airplanes, typically powered by a 3S 2200mAh battery or similar, are allowed. These can be either sport or scale models, offering a variety of flying styles and designs. This ensures a level playing field where skill is the primary factor.
Exclusions: Popwings, micros, and other similarly specialized models are not permitted in today’s competition. This rule is in place to maintain fairness and to focus on traditional RC airplane designs.
Flying Conditions: Pilots must navigate their planes under the limbo bar without touching it. As in traditional limbo, the bar will be lowered after each round, increasing the challenge.
We ask all pilots to adhere to these regulations for the safety and enjoyment of everyone involved.
So get ready for a day of high-flying excitement and remember the words of the classic limbo song: "How low can you go?"
Good luck to all our participants, and may the best pilot win!

SEFSD Members, we’ve had some happenings at our field lately that I need to discuss now, without waiting for the monthly newsletter.
This past weekend we had a couple individuals (not club members, but arriving with club members) who were disruptive, vulgar, and threatened violence towards members at our field. These two guys were running high-speed RC cars up and down the runway, through the pits, and in the parking lot in extremely unsafe manner. They were tearing up the surface we just spent thousands of dollars grooming to give you the best experience. When asked to stop, they became vulgar, threatening and violent to a couple well respected club members. If I were on site, I personally would have had them arrested. We have an agreement with the city, and Mission Bay Park to use only electric RC AIRCRAFT of multiple types at the field we rent. There is no agreement for RC Cars at all - EVER.
Per Mission Bay rules, all offroad vehicular activity is limited to 5 MPH in all areas. (Yes, that is why the parking lot is posted to 5 MPH.)
One of the reasons we have such a great club is that we always attempt to be safe with low drama. Last year we had a member (Honestly thinking he was doing the right thing) who showed up with David G. as his guest to show him what a great club we have. What followed was nine months of painful inconsideration by David of our club rules, and no ability to display proper citizenship towards members. David has since moved on to another club, but without our recommendation as being a good club member.
The two violent gentlemen who were running RC CARS everywhere on Saturday were identified as guests of some newer members who fly at the west end and brought them as their friends. One point I need to make is that when you bring in a friend to enjoy our club, it is on YOU to ensure they understand how to be respectful of our rules, and not threatening towards anyone in our space. I will hold you personally responsible if you bring a guest who threatens to injure or berates any club member for asking them to desist an unsafe action or displays disrespectful attitudes. If you have a friend that says he was kicked out of his club recently, or has nowhere to go - please please find out WHY before inviting him to our club. If a pattern develops of members bringing in new people that can’t, won’t, or don’t care about understanding our rules and how to be safe, YOU will also be asked to leave SEFSD while we are calling the police on the people who are threatening us.
Our goal continues to be having fun and being safe. What happened this weekend was a direct contravention of that on every single level and won’t be tolerated at SEFSD.
