How do you promote evidence-based policymaking?

Science is US was established by a group of eight respected science and engineering organizations as a nonpartisan effort to bridge the gap between government officials and the STEM community.

The organization empowers national, state, and local legislators to evaluate information, use scientific evidence to help answer critical questions, and be better prepared to develop effective public policy.

In support of these goals, MiresBall created a brand identity and website that cuts through the noise with a simple, straightforward approach.

Suggesting the importance of science to our country, the name highlights an inclusive vision that is further underscored by the visual identity.

The brand’s online resource center puts emphasis on facts over flash to build trust and keep the focus where it matters.

As Science is US builds a broad base of bipartisan support across the country, it has received over $10M in funding from a top ten U.S. charitable foundation.

For over 40 years as a philanthropic leader, San Diego Foundation has been helping to grow a more vibrant region. Its donors have given $1.3+ billion to support 1,800+ nonprofit organizations that provide assistance and opportunity to people throughout the county.

San Diego Foundation engaged our team to design a new brand identity that better reflects the organization’s mission to advance racial and social justice, foster equity of opportunity, build resilient communities, and deliver world-class philanthropy.

Inspired by the foundation’s original logo from 1975, the new identity represents a nexus of partners coming together to create positive change. The circular composition suggests optimistic imagery of sun and flowers that reinforce a regional focus, while the seven colors represent the organization’s core impact areas.

And, by solving various functional issues with the previous logo, the new system delivers greater impact in every application.

“You have my sincere gratitude. The new brand is so uniquely us—who we are, where we are going,” says Theresa Nakata, Vice President, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, San Diego Foundation.

How do you transform a cumbersome clinical process into a seamless digital experience?

Getting diagnosed and treated for sleep apnea often involves spending restless nights in a sleep lab, navigating a complex medical system, and overcoming the stigma attached to therapy.

These barriers keep many patients from seeking treatment.

Lofta envisioned a better way: a diagnosis-to-treatment journey powered by technology to make it easier and quicker for people suffering from sleep apnea to get better sleep.

We created an ecommerce-driven digital experience to support this vision. A user-centric design that was more human, less clinical. A process that was more streamlined, with less friction.

“They understood our business and industry in a way that led to a new brand experience that will help us drive our business forward,” says Boyd Goodson, Chief Operating Officer, Lofta.

Three months after its launch, the new Lofta site had a 357% increase in organic traffic—and continues to trend upward.

Longfellow Real Estate Partners set out to bring a modern life sciences campus to Sorrento Valley, building a more collaborative community focused on innovation.

With a collection of 19 buildings scattered throughout the valley, they needed a name and brand identity to tie a disconnected footprint together.

The brand name – SOVA Science District – suggests the project’s location in the heart of Sorrento Valley.

Referencing a campus of dispersed buildings, the identity assembles multiple pieces into a whole.

Used individually and as a pattern, the brand’s shapes become a signature asset for a variety of applications.

Collaboration with building and landscape architects threaded brand elements throughout the project, further uniting the campus.

The brand narrative highlights a location ideally suited to nurture a community of early-stage innovators.

SOVA successfully launched Longfellow on the West Coast, setting the stage for a rapidly increasing regional portfolio of over one million sq ft.

The project was selected as a Winner of San Diego Business Journal's 2021 Best Life Science Project of the Year.

Is it possible to balancing edginess and awareness?

This question guided us while creating the brand identity for the Institute of Contemporary Art, San Diego (ICA).

With a courageous mission to present experimental art that questions everything—and equally ambitious goals to bring art to everyone—the ICA San Diego needed a flexible, multi-functional identity that would create instant recognition and invite people into the experience.

A bold, out-of-proportion C references “Contemporary” within the full name, creating a memorable mark at even the smallest sizes. For more expressive applications, stylized alternate Cs enable the brand to emphasize an ever-changing dynamic.

Used in headlines, the bold C becomes a shorthand for “see” that brings the brand into the conversation, reminding everyone there’s always something new to C.

With two locations—ICA Central and ICA North—hosting a full slate of programming, the organization needed to ensure visitors arrive to the right place. A vibrant color system gives each campus a distinct presence throughout the digital experience.
The new identity toolkit enables a range of different uses, helping the ICA create more impact in more places.
