Incase you’re like me and want to know where everything is, here you go 🌺 A few additions from last year: we added a beer garden and live bands stage over in the vendor area. There will be 7 bands performing all day Saturday and DJs Sunday. Make sure to check them out in between the dancing on the main stage. It’s going to be good times 🎤🌴🍍

Shoutout to who is one of HEIVA San Diego sponsors and also NEEDS a shoutout because they do such a wonderful job providing beautiful plumerias to our competitors. I went to go visit them today and you can just tell that they love what they do and the people they meet because of it. I personally love that type of love. Did you know that they provided 2000+ blooms to our competitors last year? Let’s see how many they provide this year.
If you love them like us, show them some appreciation 💕🌺
Plumeria seekers, look no further.
Repost from

We had an awesome time attending our first Heiva San Diego Tahitian dance competition. For the 2nd year in a row, our flowers adorned the Best Costume winner - this year Kalea Minabe, designed by mom Janice. Kalea dances for Te Rahiti Nui and won the aparima category in her age group.

Ivana Moi, an independent, won the ori category in her age group.

Our blooms were also featured on costumes of dancers from Tevakanui Las Vegas and Na Pua ‘Ilima San Diego. Māuruuru!

“As long as we dance, our ancestors will live” – Moana’ura Tehei’ura, HEIVA San Diego 2024 Judge

Moana’ura Tehei’ura is an independent and indigenous choreographer and a stage director from Faa’a in Tahiti.
He believes that the motion and the movement find their origin in the essence of the word as contemporary or ancient as it can be.
In the past, he has been working with Marguerite Lai and the famous group O Tahiti E for over a decade. He was also a judge and a head judge for the Heiva I Tahiti and the Hura Tapairu. Moreover, he was a member of the Committee for the revision of the rules for the Heiva I Tahiti in 2002 and 2020.
Today, he is mainly involved with the Hura Tau group, Toakura lead by Mateata Le Gayic, Grand winner of the Heiva I Tahiti 2023. Besides, he is a member of the association of indigenous writers of Mā’ohi nui in which he has created the original concept, Pīna’ina’i, an annual performance since 2011. This year, he is in charge of the tribute to Henri Hiro, one of the most avant-gardist writer of Tahiti and Moana’ura will stage Hiro’s play, I Tai, in September 2024.
Through this dramatic challenge, Moana’ura wants to settle the specific forms and patterns of the Tahitian drama.
Moana’ura Tehei’ura is aware of the success of the ‘ori Tahiti around the world and he is offering workshops based on the relationship between the words in motion and emotions.
He would like to thank the organizers of the Heiva I San Diego for offering him the opportunity to be part of the jury this year. Finally, he asserts that ‘Ori tahiti will be still alive as long as it will be rooted in his motherland and will set sails for the new horizons of time.

Show him some love 💕

Happy 4th of July yall ✨Here’s a little infographic drop to anyone who’s like me and wants to know who and where our competitors come from. Mexico has more than 30 dancers. South Korea is coming. Palau group paving the way. Japan, aish*tieru yoooo. And Cali folks coming in hot 🥵 BUT the realilty of all these people, is that we have over 500 competitors.
Our team will be ready and accepts the challenge. ⚡️
Thank you all for being a part of our community.

Judge highlight ✨

Born on the Tuamotu island of Haoragai, Makau Foster was introduced to traditional Paumotu and Mangarevian knowledge by her parents during childhood. She then moved to Papeete for a while to pursue her studies, which she continued in Hawaii at BYU University, where she performed in the Polynesian Cultural Center. On her return to Tahiti, she joined Coco Hotahota’s troupe, becoming his muse to the point of embodying the dance goddess Urataetae. In 1988, she founded her ‘ori tahiti school and took part in the 1st Heiva des écoles in 1994. In 1999, she took part in the Tiurai with her group Tamariki Poerani, winning first prize in the amateur category. She went on to take part in several Heiva events in the Hura Tau category, where she won numerous awards: best dancer, best ra’atira, best composition, best grand costume, best ute arearea, best otea, best aparima, right up to the supreme title of Heiva grand prize in 2017. That same year, she also won the Hura Tapairu grand prize, best otea, best aparima, best otea apipiti, best rutu a pahu. In addition to her local and international school activities, she has been a jury member at several Heiva and other ‘ori Tahiti competitions, both locally and internationally.

Like her mentor Coco Hotahota, she wants to pass on the love she has for her country, and the humility we must feel in the face of all the beauty and grace that surrounds us.
