We were immediately struck by this innovative wallcovering by our friends at Momentum. This wallcovering pattern, Lanark Louis, is designed by Lanark stylist, Kathy Wisniski, in partnership with the National Federation of the Blind. Initially inspired by the tactility of Braille letterforms, Louis features 30 embossed words that represent qualities of the human spirit we all possess and strive to implement in our lives. We hope this design brings awareness to the history of Braille, the beautiful simplicity of the code itself and how it can open up worlds for the blind and people with low vision. It is also named after the inventor of a reading and writing system intended for use by visually impaired people, braille. Louis Braille was a French educator and his system is used worldwide and remains virtually unchanged to this day. Braille, is often used in a more utilitarian setting, however the list of embossed words includes: independence, honesty, equality, kindness, compassion, devotion, love, honor, sincerity, integrity, virtue, goodness, warmth, grace, generosity, care, friendship, tenderness, joy, humanity, fairness, happiness, hope, trust, truth, courage, empathy, decency, freedom and respect. What a great idea.
