Meet Clay, our corporate partnerships assistant manager who wanted to share his story of why he cares about ending hunger in San Diego County.
"As a San Diego native, my community has always supported me. Working at Feeding San Diego, I get to help strengthen my community and see it grow and thrive. Seeing businesses and community members come together to combat hunger and ensure that all San Diegans have equitable access to nutrition inspires me to continue the fight against hunger and give back to a community that has given me so much."

We are so excited to partner with Healthy Day Partners to launch the Straight 2 the Plate® Mobile Classroom! Healthy Day Partners received a grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to start this new program, which is an extension of Grab & Grow Gardens®. The first workshop took place at the Valley Center Produce Pantry where Feeding San Diego distributes produce to community members twice a month.
The Straight 2 the Plate® program addresses key barriers to home gardening in urban areas, such as low land ownership and limited transportation access. Through gardening workshops that “pop up” at food distributions, affordable housing complexes, local tribes, and military communities. Mobile classroom participants construct and take home portable, seasonal gardens in 5-gallon buckets and windowsill containers. In addition to hands-on experience creating these instant gardens, participants receive gardening tools and multi-language handbooks, fostering confidence in year-round crop cultivation.
Mim Michelove, CEO and president, and her team have been distributing seedlings at the FSD Produce Pantry since 2023, working to empower children, seniors, active military, veterans, and marginalized populations experiencing food insecurity to grow their own food.
It's incredible to expand partnerships that help increase food sovereignty and food access.
What a SUPER volunteer shift!
