Field Day at TCS was a full day of fun and celebration, bringing together multi-grade teams for activities. The day's highlights being the annual Teacher vs. 8th Grade kickball game, where the 8th graders emerged victorious and the Prekindergarten class taking down the teachers in an epic tug o war showdown. Beyond the games, Field Day was a meaningful occasion to celebrate the connections formed throughout the year.
The TCS Talent Show was an incredible event that showcased the diverse and impressive talents of our students. From musical performances to captivating dance routines and magic acts, every participant brought their unique flair to the stage.
Our TCS 7th and 8th graders recently enjoyed their annual trip to Boston, packed with exciting activities and educational experiences. Our students have been collaborating on planning the trip from start to finish. They toured iconic locations such as Fenway Park and TD Garden, strolled through Harvard's historic grounds, explored Faneuil Market, and the Boston Aquarium. They also visited the House of Seven Gables and the Isabella Gardner Museum, and walked around the North End on a Freedom Trail tour. Along the way, they indulged in Boston's best desserts, pastries, local eats, and seafood. It was a memorable trip for everyone! Thank you to our dedicated TCS teachers who made it possible.
Our 8th grade TCS students presented their capstones to celebrate the end of a wonderful school year, showcasing extensive research and wonderfully prepared presentations. We are so proud of our graduation class of 2024!
Our 6th and 7th grade students recently showcased their research learning projects, covering a diverse range of topics such as clean beauty research, the science behind sports injuries, and dog training processes. These projects serve as essential tools, enabling students to reflect, synthesize, and analyze their learning.
Last Friday, we hosted our annual Early Childhood Spring Sing, showcasing performances from our Toddler, Preschool, and Prekindergarten students. The event was full of happy faces, lovely music, and funny jokes from our students.
Sweet baby chicks have hatched at TCS! We are ecstatic to watch them grow. 🐣
Our 3rd graders recently shared what they learned about space in an out of this world presentation! They discussed our planets, icy comets, and huge stars called red supergiants. Even our kindergarten Learning Buddies joined in too!
Last week, our 4th grade classes embarked on a memorable trip to Sacramento. They immersed themselves in hands-on learning at iconic sites such as Sutter's Fort, Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park, the California State Railroad Museum, and the Capitol building. This cherished tradition at TCS not only promotes independence but also strengthens bonds among classmates, providing an enriching learning adventure.
We ended last week on a high note! Conservation Ambassadors - Zoo to You journeyed from Paso Robles to share the incredible efforts of their organization. Their mission is to give a voice to wildlife by offering a permanent, caring home for displaced, abused, abandoned, or permanently injured wild and exotic animals. Our TCS students were inspired by an incredible message of hope for the numerous species that have been rescued from extinction due to habitat loss or poaching. We even had the opportunity to meet and interact with a variety of animals including a spider monkey, a lemur, a baby kangaroo, an American alligator, a turkey vulture, and a baby porcupine.
Last week, our 1st - 8th grade students, teachers, and parents joined together in a display of unity during our beach clean-up. Together, we tackled the litter left on our shores, collecting buckets of trash and micro plastics. It was great to witness everyone, united by a common goal, making a difference in preserving our beaches and environment.
After 6 weeks of learning, we finally celebrated our 24th Annual Great Artists Grand Finale on April 11th. Thank you to all who joined the celebration of creativity, artistry, and talent. It was an unforgettable evening!
Happy Earth Day from our TCS Community Garden!
Our middle school students enjoyed a trip to the San Diego Safari Park! From exploring the Beckman Center for Conservation to riding the Africa Tram in the afternoon, our students had an unforgettable experience. They dove into a cell culture lab focused on California Condor tissue, gaining insights into the zoo's crucial conservation efforts for this critically endangered species, which is native to our region. The enthusiasm and knowledge our students displayed highlighted their learning journey throughout the year.

Our Head of School jumped into the science classroom to teach our middle schoolers about chemical reactions. It was an engaging lesson and sparked a newfound appreciation for the wonders of chemistry!
Did you see it? With our eclipse glasses on (safety first!), our students gathered at 11:11am to catch a glimpse of the solar eclipse. 🌙 No total solar eclipse will be visible from the contiguous United States again until 2044. Our students were happy to catch this one!
Congratulations to Diana Quincannon, our exceptional middle school math and science teacher, on receiving the prestigious Arthur Friedman Memorial Teacher of the Year award at the Greater San Diego Science & Engineering Fair! Diana's dedication and passion for education has positively impacted countless students in our TCS community. We are incredibly grateful for her hard work and congratulate her on this well-deserved recognition.

This 24 year tradition is a hallmark of the integrated, project based learning curriculum at The Children's School. Great Artists encourages children from toddler age through eighth grade to develop an appreciation of art as they study specific artists' styles and explore a variety of art mediums. Our Grand Finale event will showcase artistic creations in classroom galleries. Join us for a memorable evening!
TCS Alumni Spotlight! Brianna, a TCS alumni from the class of 2012, credits her five-year TCS education for instilling crucial skills like self-discipline, creative thinking, and prioritization, which served her well in high school and college. Fond memories include beach biking in PE and strong class relationships. Choosing SDSU for its proximity, affordability, and alignment with her major in construction engineering and management, she excelled academically, earning honors, scholarships, and Dean's List recognition. Starting her career as a Project Engineer with McCarthy Building Companies, she's now considering new paths like substitute teaching and pursuing a real estate license to leverage her prior investment experience for potential career transitions and personal growth.
Congratulations to our TCS students for their success at the Greater San Diego Science and Engineering Fair! Our 7th and 8th grade students showcased their findings to an expert panel of judges. With over 700 projects entered this year, our students did exceptionally well earning multiple awards, including some state qualifiers. Their outstanding performance reflects not only their individual achievements but also the collective excellence of TCS's decade-long participation in this competition.
The Children’s School eagerly welcomed author and illustrator, Rachel Ignotofsky for a lively presentation and book signing event centered around her latest work, "What’s Inside a Bird's Nest?" Rachel shared the science behind her books and how she illustrates her books through digital art.
The Children’s School had the pleasure of welcoming award-winning illustrator, Christian Robinson for a book signing event with our kindergarten through 5th grade students last week. Our students were delighted to hear Christian share stories from his childhood and discuss his sources of inspiration for creativity. Additionally, he showcased his talent by illustrating animals from student requests in the audience.
We had a wonderful morning celebrating Pi Day at TCS! Students participated in Pi Day activities, which included enjoying some pi-themed treats and reciting as many digits of pi as they could! The top performers from each grade competed in our annual Pi Day Recitation Competition. Shoutout to our 2024 Pi Day Winner, Bella who memorized 82 digits of pi! Congratulations to all of our participants!
Our TCS 7th and 8th-grade students had an amazing experience at General Atomics last week. We toured their facility and learned about the world of nuclear energy, aligning with our nuclear fusion research. We also had a chance to engage in hands-on activities related to plasma and cutting-edge advancements. It was a day filled with learning, exploration, and inspiration!
TCS was thrilled and honored to host a visit last week from the New York Times bestselling author, Matt de la Peña! Matt captivated our K-4th grade students with personal childhood stories, accompanied by photos, and shared fascinating details about his recent works. Additionally, he read one of his New York Times Bestsellers, "Milo Imagines the World," to our students. Furthermore, he made a stop at our local favorite bookstore, , for a private reading.
We had another successful Read Across America day at TCS! Our students celebrated by reading for 2024 seconds together on the field, wearing their coziest PJ's, and eating delicious homemade pancakes. Thank you to our amazing Parent Association for preparing this day special for our young readers!
