We hope this message finds you well and surrounded by the warmth of the holiday season.

Since our inception in 2012, your patronage has been the driving force behind Atypical Waffle's success. Over the years, you've become customers and cherished members of our extended family. Today, we are reaching out with mixed emotions to share an important update about the future of Atypical Waffle.
In 2017, we boldly relocated to Tahoe, leaving our beloved establishment behind us. The subsequent years have been filled with incredible memories, delicious waffles, and the joy of serving this wonderful community. Our business has weathered various personal and global storms with the support of patrons like you.

As some of you may already know, in 2019, Amy and Joe embarked on becoming foster parents. This decision profoundly impacted our lives, and we have adopted one child out of foster care (now 13) and another, hopefully this year (age 11). Alongside the challenges of parenthood, the world faced an unexpected turn in 2020 with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The subsequent three years have been marked by financial strains and operational challenges, further complicated by necessary adjustments in response to the evolving landscape.

We are at a crossroads despite your continued loyalty and our team's remarkable efforts. In recent months, we've engaged in discussions with fellow community restaurant owners who share our passion for Atypical Waffle. These conversations have led to the decision to pass the torch to a new owner who envisions revitalizing Atypical Waffle with fresh energy, new ideas, and a commitment to excellence.

With a heavy heart, we are announcing the closure of Atypical Waffle's operations on January 22, with our last day open to the public on Sunday, January 21. We understand the impact this decision may have on your connection with Atypical, and we want to express our sincere gratitude for your unwavering support throughout the years.

While this marks the end of one chapter, it also signals the beginning of an exciting new era for Atypical Waffle. The new owner is dedicated to investing time, effort, and resources into renovations, ensuring a fresh start for our beloved establishment. We have high hopes that the revitalized Atypical Waffle will continue to be a cherished part of this community. While we have discussed maintaining our wholesale operations, we have decided that it wouldn’t be consistent enough and therefore unfair to our local partners, Coffee and Tea Collective, Rad Habits, Coffee Corner, and Mixed Grounds. For the kitchen to be fully renovated; all operations must cease to reinvent the space and apply and wait on city permitting. Renovations will most likely take at least 90 days before re-opening is possible.

We want to express our deepest thanks for being an integral part of the Atypical Waffle family. Your smiles, kind words, and shared moments have made this journey memorable. We encourage you to join us in celebrating the memories and looking forward to the future.

Our last day open to the public is Sunday, January 21st, and we invite you to stop by and share a waffle with us. Our local partners will receive waffles through February 1st so you will have another week or so to visit those establishments as well. We are immensely grateful for the relationships we've built with each of you and look forward to the continued success of Atypical Waffle in the hands of its new custodians.

We hope you have a great New Year! We have some things on the horizon but we will wait to inform you as we tease out some details. In the mean time, please know we are open our usual hours this week, Thursday-Saturday 8am-2pm, on Sunday (12/31), we will be open from 8am-1pm (or sold out.)

Since New Years Day falls on a Monday this year, we will be CLOSED.

The Taste of North Park is happening this Saturday, October 7th. Many folks will come to NP this Saturday and taste a bite from many of our local restaurants and tasting rooms. Though we have participated in years past, we are unable to participate this year as we want to continue to utilize our staff to focus on our daily customers. We simply do not have a large enough staff to participate in the event and be open for regular service.

With that, we are open our usual hours of operation Friday-Sunday 8am-2pm. We welcome your presence! Have a great weekend!

Another Week Day For You

We closed to three days a week in March this year due to a need for more staff. We have spent the last 2.5 months building a new team. Our waffle team is still so very new and we are continuing to train but we feel we can now OPEN ON THURSDAYS! Yes, we are excited to give you another week day.

Starting this Thursday, June 1st - Our hours of operation are from
Thursday-Sunday 8am-2pm.

Please note, on Friday June 2nd, we will close at 1pm for a Staff Training.

We are OPEN Friday 4/7 and Saturday 4/8 from 8am-2pm as usual, however, please make note that we are closed on Easter Sunday 4/9.

While we are transitioning into new management, as well as building a new staff, we will maintain our current minimal hours of Friday-Sunday 8am-2pm. Once we feel like we are ready to serve you fully, we hope to open up more frequently during the week.

New staff shoes? I mean., they are non slip right?

The more and more you come in, the more you may see changes to the space and team. I can’t believe we’ve been waffling for over a decade now. Anyhow, pictured here is , who is helping with some of the back-end stuff. You may see him on the floor, running food, or helping train some new faces in the back - say hello and keep posted as we try to keep our gram more personable and less presumptuous - I mean, the waffles are great, but the team is greater. People over product. Waffles over pancakes, refunds over bad service 😂😂😂

Start them off young. Marion here just got her workers permit this week. Her dad on the right has helped the waffle shop since day 001. Literally, he helped us get all those teal stadium seats from a college he worked at when we had no money for chairs in 2014. She’s been wanting to work in this kitchen since she was like 8-9, so it’s cool to see this little dream come true for her. She's no Syd but we can sure shape her up to be one!

I forgot to post all week - but we did rearrange the furniture and added these fantastic couches so that people can hang out even longer. Just don’t wipe your maple-slathered fingers on the cushions, please. Oh, and we’ve watched these couches since birth. From our good friend Steve’s Ajax store at to the fantastic Sam’s journey.
