Hello everyone! Here is some information for a fellowship opportunity with a global health and development organization called VAW Global Health Alliances who is looking to start a Medical Outreach chapter at UCSD.

The positions is a VAW Global Team Leader who would be in charge of recruiting students (interns) and preparing them for their medical internship in one of our global sites: Cambodia, Guatemala, Panama, Dominican Republic, Peru, or Vietnam.

While in-country, VAW Global Medical Interns work closely with local healthcare professionals and partners to implement primary medical clinics across low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Through the Medical Outreach Internship program, interns learn about healthcare in a global context and disease diagnosis, treatment courses, and clinic operations through shadowing, measuring vital signs, and learning about basic pharmacology -- all under the direct supervision of experienced local physicians and staff.

This Team Leader position is a paid fellowship.

The students of ETHN 198: Abolition Medicine invite you all to witness and be in conversation with us at this symposium for our final projects: “Caring Futurities: An Abolitionist Desire Patchwork”. The class has been put on by the Coalition for Abolition Medicine, a collective of care co-founded by trans & q***r undergraduate & graduate students of color at UC San Diego. Read our mission statement here: https://tinyurl.com/CAMissionstatement
Through embracing our own subjectivities and how they exist in relation to each other, we emphasize how this patchwork project has manifested as a way of building caring kinships with each other at the neoliberal university. Relationships that honor the complexity and contradictions in our survival and collective resistance.
The students’ projects reflect their unique subjectivities in what we have come to collectively understand as abolition medicine. We utilize a patchwork, a mosaic of our artistic productions that exist in conversation with each other to showcase what we have been learning and how we have been moving with each other. Our vision for reimagining care infrastructure is based on the abolitionist consciousness that we have been building together throughout the course and is represented in this gallery through patchwork abolition concepts and praxis. All of the art from folx in the space will go into a zine, which will serve as a communal embodiment of our experiences with engaging in abolition medicine as deconstruction, creation, and practice.
