Our youth had an incredible time making homemade ice cream at the YMCA. It was not only a fun and delicious activity but also a fantastic opportunity for them to learn new skills and bond with each other. The joy and excitement on their faces were priceless as they worked together, measuring ingredients, mixing flavors, and eagerly anticipating the sweet results. This experience not only satisfied their taste buds but also fostered teamwork, creativity, and a sense of accomplishment.

Football has also become a favorite activity, making the cut alongside dodgeball. Staying active is crucial for our youth, as it provides a space for them to burn off some steam and stay healthy. It's great to see them engage in physical activities that foster teamwork, discipline, and camaraderie. Our commitment to youth sports ensures they have plenty of opportunities to remain active and energetic.

Dodgeball has quickly become a favorite activity among our youth. Their competitive spirit is off the charts, making each game wildly exciting and fun. YE loves supporting youth sports and fitness, fostering a healthy and energetic environment for everyone involved. Watching them strategize, build teamwork, and engage in friendly competition has been incredibly rewarding. Thank you to all the mentors who help facilitate these activities and ensure that our youth have such enriching experiences.

Art therapy is not only incredibly helpful but also a lot of fun for our youth. It provides a creative outlet for them to express their emotions, explore their thoughts, and develop new skills in a supportive and engaging environment. The joy and growth we witness during these sessions are truly inspiring. A big thank you to Jessica Mejia for providing such fun and creative activities, making these sessions even more impactful and enjoyable for everyone involved.

We are thrilled to share that a youth empowerment proposal I've been passionate about has been approved by her office. Now, we eagerly await its progress through Congress. Investing in our young people and their families is investing in our future, and I believe this initiative has the potential to make a real difference.

Congresswoman Jacobs is a shining example of dedicated public service. Her commitment to listening to constituents and addressing our region's most pressing issues is truly refreshing. We are grateful for her tireless work on behalf of San Diego County.

One of our key activities is the blindfold exercise, which is specifically designed to build trust among participants. By requiring them to rely on one another for guidance and support, this exercise helps to strengthen their bonds and encourages effective teamwork.

During the blindfold exercise, participants must navigate various tasks and obstacles without the use of their sight, relying solely on the instructions and assistance of their peers. This not only enhances their communication skills but also cultivates a deep sense of trust and mutual respect. The experience teaches them the importance of collaboration, trustworthiness, and the value of supporting one another.

Through activities like these, we aim to create a supportive environment where our youth can develop critical life skills, build lasting relationships, and grow both individually and collectively. The youth at Youth Empowerment had the incredible opportunity to go camping, thanks to an invitation from UrbanLife Ministries Inc. This truly remarkable experience, once again led by the inspiring Robert Almada, emphasized the importance of working together and building strong relationships.

Camping provided an ideal setting for our youth to collaborate, learn the value of teamwork, and develop essential social skills. Through shared activities and challenges, they strengthened their bonds and learned how to support one another. This experience not only offered them a chance to connect with nature but also reinforced the critical lessons of cooperation and unity. We are grateful to Urban Life and Robert Almada for facilitating such a transformative experience for our youth.

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Cardboard Superheroes for their incredible inspiration during the cardboard competition. Their creativity and dedication provided an amazing experience for our youth, who had an absolute blast participating. The event not only sparked their imaginations but also taught them valuable lessons in innovation and resourcefulness. Our young participants were truly inspired by the ingenuity on display, and the joy and excitement they felt will be remembered for a long time. We are incredibly proud of Michelle, our dedicated mentors, and our hardworking mentees. Over the past six months, YE's high school mentees have demonstrated remarkable growth, both personally and academically. This progress is a testament to their dedication and the unwavering support they receive from our mentorship team.

Michelle Wales and her team have been instrumental in guiding these young individuals, helping them build confidence, develop essential skills, and prepare for their future careers. As we continue our efforts to secure job placements and career opportunities for them, we are excited to witness their ongoing journey of success.

The tremendous strides our mentees have made highlight the effectiveness of our mentorship program and the importance of providing consistent, personalized support. We look forward to celebrating even more achievements in the months to come, as our mentees continue to thrive and reach new heights. YE loves bowling, and our youth share that enthusiasm. Bowling offers more than just fun; it provides a valuable opportunity for the kids to focus on a single task, effectively blocking out the distractions of the outside world. This concentrated effort is essential for giving them mental breaks, which are crucial for their overall well-being and social development.

When they immerse themselves in the game, they not only enjoy the physical activity but also develop important skills like concentration, patience, and teamwork. These sessions allow them to unwind and relieve stress, creating a balanced environment where they can thrive both mentally and socially. Bowling serves as a perfect blend of enjoyment and growth, helping our youth build resilience and foster their social skills in a supportive and engaging setting.

YE is passionate about allowing kids to simply be kids. In our fast-paced, goal-oriented world, adults often forget the pure joy and freedom that come from wholesome fun and unstructured play. We believe in creating environments where children can engage in activities that bring them happiness and laughter, fostering their creativity and imagination. By letting them enjoy these moments of unbridled joy, we support their overall development and remind ourselves of the importance of embracing the simple pleasures in life.

YE's collaboration with the YMCA offers a holistic program designed to nurture the well-rounded development of our youth. This innovative program dedicates part of the time to social and emotional development, incorporating activities and discussions that build self-awareness, emotional intelligence, empathy, and effective communication skills. These sessions aim to help the youth better understand and manage their emotions, develop positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.

Simultaneously, the other part of the program focuses on enhancing physical abilities through various fitness and sports activities. These activities are designed not only to improve physical health and coordination but also to instill discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. The combination of these elements ensures that participants are not only physically active but also mentally and emotionally resilient.

By integrating these two critical areas of development, YE and the YMCA strive to provide a nurturing environment where youth can grow into well-rounded individuals. This comprehensive approach prepares them to face life's challenges with confidence, health, and a strong sense of self.

As an advocate for educational and social reform, I firmly believe that together, we can create a new narrative. My mission is to consign the school-to-prison pipeline to history's pages as a dark path never to be revisited. By working collectively, we can ensure that future generations are provided with opportunities for growth and success, rather than facing a cycle of incarceration and lost potential.
