Our dental assistant Kellie transformed into 🧚‍♂️The Tooth Fairy 🧚‍♀️ yesterday to pay a special visit to the children at KinderCare. Armed with fun activities and a little magic, she teamed up with Dr. Ida to spread the joy of healthy teeth and happy smiles to this rapt audience of preschoolers.

Happy International Women’s Day! We are a proud women-led and women-operated office, and we are so lucky to work with such a special team to care for the health of our patients. Thank you to all the women in the dental and healthcare fields for all your hard work, dedication, and unwavering compassion. 💐

In February we celebrated 🎉Children’s Oral Health 🎈month by doing several “show and tells” at local preschools. These events are meant to educate little ones on proper oral hygiene through engaging activities such as games and storytelling.

One of the schools, My Little Learning Tree, was nice enough to send us some pictures they took of Dr. Ida in action. We also loved how they prepared for her visit by writing the children’s questions about dental health down on the whiteboard 🥰

At Seaside Kids Dental every day begins with a morning huddle. This is the time we set aside to meet as a team and plan the day ahead. We go over each patient individually and discuss their specific needs and any special accommodations they may require. We also discuss the previous day and talk about the things that went well and the things we can improve upon.
‌
The huddle is the most important 15 minutes of our day as it insured we’re all on the same page, makes us more efficient, and helps us deliver the highest level of care that we believe all of our patients deserve! 😁

So if you have the first appointment of the day and you see the entire team huddled around our front desk, know that we are preparing so that we can give you the best dental experience possible!!!

Tooth Tip Tuesday 📝

Chewing sugar-free gum buffers the amount of acid in your mouth, which is a huge part of how we get cavities! The act of chewing gum stimulates saliva, which is a natural protective factor, and it can help to restore any lost minerals from the teeth. Saliva plays a key role in the prevention of cavities as it acts as a buffer against any bacteria 🦠

Fun fact: if you or your kiddo has asthma and use an inhaler, it may decrease your salivary flow—chewing sugar-free gum (and drinking lots of water!) can help stimulate that saliva and protect your teeth 😊🦷

Pro Tip: look for “xylitol” as the main ingredient in your gum 🫧

Tooth Tip Tuesday🦷✏️

Long term thumb sucking can result in altered skeletal pattern and alignment of teeth! This can potentially even effect speech and chewing down the line. Some ways to help your child break the habit can be to offer them a soft toy instead, cover their hands with mittens or gloves as a gentle reminder, and provide positive reinforcement! We like to use our “Breaking the Habit” calendar—ask us about it at your next visit!

What are sealants and why do we recommend them? Sealants are thin coatings placed on children's back teeth to help guard against future tooth decay. The application of sealants is easy, pain free, and reduces the need for dental work in the future! 🤩
