The Disabled Fight for Health Care 07/11/2017

Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. This video explains why Medicaid is so important to people with disabilities and provides the back story to why people are putting their lives on the line to protect it.

The Disabled Fight for Health Care Recently, 43 disabled protesters were arrested outside of Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell's office, and the clips went viral on social media. Since th...

Mother and son: Medicaid isn't about politics, it's about lives 06/24/2017

Mike lives at home with his family, where he wants to be and where he's able to be active in his community. He and his mom explain how Medicaid makes this possible and how the current proposed changes would force him from his home.

Mother and son: Medicaid isn't about politics, it's about lives Mike Phillips is severely physically disabled, but thanks to Medicaid, he's able to be cared for at home by his family. In a remarkable interview with Ari Melber, Mike and his mother Karen Clay explain how Medicaid cuts would literally end life as they...

Police drag disabled protesters out of wheelchairs during Trumpcare protests 06/22/2017

In 1977, disabled activists took over San Francisco city hall to demand equal rights for over 20 days. The capitol police need to think about that. And they need to know that it is not only unsafe, it's a physical violation to remove someone from their wheelchair without their consent. As the article states, people with disabilities "use Medicaid to be able to work in the community; to be free and independent; to live on this planet". The disability community is not going to be quiet with so much at stake.

Police drag disabled protesters out of wheelchairs during Trumpcare protests Capitol Hill Police have forcibly removed protesters in wheelchairs from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s office on the same day Republicans released their latest healthcare plan.

Opinion | My son has Down syndrome. The GOP’s health-care bill scares me to death. 05/22/2017

"One of my closest friends has a brother in his late 30s with Down syndrome. His life is the very life that I want someday for my own son. He works full time at a job he loves, lives independently, and participates in his local theater and synagogue. He has a long-term girlfriend and is a beloved member of his community. The Medicaid services that he receives support him in his independence. Those services help him to budget and pay bills, shop for groceries and cook, use transportation and succeed at his job. Because of Medicaid, he is a taxpayer, a consumer and a good neighbor.
How do I know that these services will be cut? Because, under Medicaid law, they are optional."

Opinion | My son has Down syndrome. The GOP’s health-care bill scares me to death. Cathy McMorris Rodgers and I want the same thing for our children, but we disagree on what kind of law will get us there.

A Little-Noticed Target in the House Health Bill: Special Education 05/04/2017

Medicaid is used for a full range of services for people with disabilities, not just their doctor's visits. Cuts to the Medicaid program are a serious threat to the health, safety, and well being of people with disabilities. California's community based service system relies on Medicaid funding. Let's not create a crisis of care in our communities. Let your legislator know that the current version of the ACHA puts the lives and independence of people with disabilities at risk!

A Little-Noticed Target in the House Health Bill: Special Education A provision of the Republican plan to replace the Affordable Care Act would sharply cut Medicaid funds for special education programs across the country.
