Congratulations to the San Francisco State University Museum Studies class of 2020! The Global Museum co-hosted the virtual graduation ceremony yesterday for our graduate Master of Arts students and undergraduate minors. We are are so proud of all of their accomplishments, especially during a particularly challenging year. Some favorite memories from their time in the museum include moving sarcophagi, giving tours of the museum in English and Spanish, installing vinyl, and the Global Museum’s opening day. Congrats, graduates - we can’t wait to see what you do next!

Happy Friday and cheers to round 2 of our panel “The New Normal? Museums During and After Coronavirus” co-hosted with the Global Museum and the Museum Studies Program! Today’s panel went both out of state and international and featured museum professionals from the Oakland Museum of California, Reiman Gardens at Iowa State University, California Academy of Sciences, SFMOMA, and La Maison Léon-Provancher in Quebec. Thank you to our amazing alumni and museum community for sharing your insights and advice!
A huge thank you to the San Francisco State University Alumni Association for their feature on the Global Museum! Check out their page, which includes fun FAQs from the Global Museum Staff, who are all SF State alumni! (Two from Museum Studies!)

A huge thank you to the SF State Museum Studies alumni who participated in yesterday’s Zoom panel “The new normal? Museums during and and after Coronavirus” co-hosted with Global Museum and the Museum Studies Program. Museum professionals and program alumni from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, California Academy of Sciences, Magnes Collection of Jewish Art and Life, and Museum of Sonoma County shared their insights and advice. We are so grateful for the support of our amazing alum family!
We can’t tell you how much we miss seeing our student assistants! Alex, a Global Museum student assistant and soon to be graduating undergraduate minor in Museum Studies (congrats, Alex!!), shares why they love the Global Museum:
"My name is Alex and I am an Engagement Specialist at the Global Museum. I love working with visitors at the GM because its such a cool social learning experience for both me and the visitor. I love teaching about the objects as much as I love learning about them. I am always looking for new ways to make connections to visitors.
Willow loves working there too! (Willow is an Emotional Support Animal)"
The Global Museum from a different angle...(hint: it’s our ceiling!). Our Museum Studies graduate student Ana reflects about her favorite part about the museum: “working hands-on in the Global Museum gave me a new perspective on exhibition design. The staff work from the bottom to the top...literally the top because the lights do not adjust themselves! Next time you visit a museum look up and remember someone had to get on a very tall ladder.” (Something to look forward to when we can visit museums again!)
Another Getty artwork challenge from our Museum Studies graduate student Dylainie! She recreates Vincent Van Gogh’s 1890 portrait of Adeline Ravoux, which resides in the collection of the Cleveland Art Museum 🎨
