Park Branch opened on October 29th, 1909, and is the oldest existing San Francisco Public Library building. Park Branch was built with City funds: $7,000 for the land and $27,000 for the building. Designed by the McDougall Brothers, the two-story neo-classical brick and terra cotta building is set 30 feet back from the street to complement the primarily residential area around it.

Author Laura Burges will discuss her book The Zen Way of Recovery. Ryuko Laura Burges will share her story of recovery and the Buddhist teachings and practices that have helped her stay sober since 1985. Park Branch will offer free copies of her book to participants while supplies last.

The Sounds of SWANA Heritage with Sirvan Manhoobi

Feel the power of classical Iranian, Arabic and Kurdish music performed on traditional instruments by Sirvan Manhoobi and Cina Dibay.

Sirvan Manhoobi composes and performs music from a variety of Iranian, Middle Eastern and Central Asian cultures. Co-founder of the Sorvad Music Ensemble and other groups, he has performed at festivals worldwide. Also a musicologist, Manhoobi is an expert performer on oud, setar, tanbour and other instruments. He is joined for this performance by percussionist Cina Dibay.

Learn about the history and art of Hambone, and its evolution from Africa to modern North America. Find out what hambone is, where does the name come from, why was it created and what is its significance and meaning. Then experience traditional styles of Hambone body music and find playful rhythms to express a unique Hambone musical style in a fun, non-competitive atmosphere. For children and their families.

Unique Derique is the Clown Prince of Fools who brings on the fun with comedy, Hambone body drums and juggling.
