Waiting for a babe today, secretly hoping they arrive before the end of this International Day of the Midwife. 🥰 Feeling so honored to be remembered by families in this way.
To my own midwives, the midwives I’ve been blessed to learn from, and all the midwives who love and center the families they work with: Happy Day to You!!
Friendly reminder that Labor of Love is closing registration on Monday! There are still some spots so if you or a loved one is interested in processing a difficult birth with a warm and understanding circle of peers and providers, join us! The first session is this coming Tuesday! 💕
I had the great honor of learning from Dr. McLemore in nursing school. 🩺 Over the years, she’s done an outstanding job of breaking down the research in sexual and reproductive health for it’s clear and stark realities.
❗️Pregnancy is not an illness. No one should die from pregnancy.
❗️Black, Indigenous, and Latine folks are dying in the perinatal period at rates that are unacceptably high and far exceed rates in other developed nations.
❗️All efforts to reform healthcare for childbearing people should center improving this outcome. Other associated outcomes will improve as a result.
❗️The responsibility is not on the shoulders of Black, Indigenous, and Latine childbearing folks. It is on us as providers and us as a nation.
In this week honoring Black Maternal Health, we can stand together and vow to learn more, center voices leading this work, support emerging Black and Brown midwives and providers, and to always, ALWAYS listen to birthing people. 🖤 🤎 🖤 🤎
Photo dump 📸: What a fun day! 🤩 My first time as a street vendor and it was SO much more fun than I thought it would be! My mom was our first customer 🥰 and (one of) my midwives stopped by to feed us and support us ❤️. Selling my grandmother’s soup herbs and hanging with good people (). 5 out of 5 stars, I highly recommend the experience!!
When your former client comes by to let you cuddle her little love bug AND draws your blood! I felt a special bond with this L&D nurse from the moment I met her. 😍 If you are lucky enough to have her as your L&D nurse, you’ll be in good hands (until I convince her she should really be a midwife!).
This group has already garnered lots of interest. It feels bittersweet to know that so many people feel like this group resonates with them. But in that same breath I’m glad that we can hold space for folks in this way. 💙 Birth forever changes us - physically, mentally, and emotionally. Let’s start having conversations that help us heal stronger and more resilient. 🦋
