Our little guy is hospitalized, on pain meds and waiting for orthopedic surgery for his broken back legs. Surgery will likely be Monday as they are squeezing us in to an already tight schedule.

This 4-5 month old mixed breed pup is 11 pounds and will probably mature at 15-20 pounds. He will be available for adoption after he heals.

Good babies 💕

Our adorable 6 week old bottle babies had their vet checks today and they were so good. These small mixed breed pups were orphaned soon after birth and have been lovingly raised in their Dogwood foster home with cats, other dogs and endless love. We’re waiting on Dna test results to give adopters a better idea of adult size and traits but we’re guessing 10-20 pounds at maturity. Maybe some shihtzu and who knows what else in there.

Our approximately 10-12 year-old, 10 pound senior Shihtzu was abandoned with a large bleeding mass on his eye. Kind vet staff cared for him and removed his eye and an awesome pilot and ground crews gave him the gift of a freedom flight to Dogwood for Christmas.

We’re still getting to know him but he’s a sweetheart who gets along with everyone including dogs and cats. He was good for his bath and enjoys exploring, chewing on his bully stick, and having a cuddle.

We’re so happy to have these cuties and 3 more puppy mill dogs, safe in our care. We’re still getting them sorted out as only 4 of the 6 came with paperwork and some of the microchips don’t match.

The Berner pups and wild girl Bernerdoodle girl Bazinga are settling in well, as is Bernerdoodle mama Gloria.

UPDATE- *Adopted!!*
Have you met Willis Ellis? She's lovely. A little independent, she might act like she's not interested in meeting you when you enter her room, but she's cool. She's doing okay in our communal room with other kitties, but we're pretty sure she would prefer the room to herself. We also think she'd do okay in a home with another kitty tho. 6 years old, spayed and vaccinated, this kitty is ready. She may not be a lap cat, but Willis Ellis has won our hearts; come meet her!

Our recipe for happiness? Find two empty containers (a bowl, basket or cardboard box will do just fine). Adopt one part "Cosmo" kitten plus one part "Yogi" kitten. They are brothers who mix purrfectly and are guaranteed to spice up your life!

This stunning girl declined to join in yesterday’s Christmas photos as it turned out she didn’t care for the jingle bells some of the dogs were wearing. Laura is a typical intelligent, sensitive, loyal German Shepherd and petite at 50 pounds.
She was an unclaimed stray who sat in a crowded shelter for 4 long months before we welcomed her at Dogwood.

Laura is mostly confident and outgoing, has been friendly to all and she likes people but she has a few things that make us question her past. We rarely assume dogs were abused just because they are timid or fearful etc but Laura seems to have a few deep seated fears. While mostly confident and outgoing, when called she comes running and then sweetly, submissively rolls over, but if you reach for her collar she seems a bit panicked. We’ve been working to help her feel safe and she’s making progress.
