Join us for an exciting volunteer opportunity this Fall 2024 with Opera Together! We're seeking passionate volunteers to work alongside us as docents as we bring the magic of opera to Bay Area schools.

Opera Together partners with nearly 100 Bay Area and Northern California schools each fall, staging condensed classic operas with professional and student performers in assembly settings.

As a docent, volunteers will play a crucial role in preparing schools, coordinating with teachers, and introducing students to the enchanting world of opera. This year, we'll be showcasing Rossini's timeless classic, La Cenerentola. Imagine witnessing students shine on stage with professional singers—it's a truly unforgettable experience!
If you have experience with artists and youth, strong communication skills, and access to reliable transportation, we want to hear from you! Don't miss out on this chance to make a difference and spread the joy of music and drama.

Back to School with Opera Scouts and Madrigals!

Time to sign up for San Francisco Opera Guild's Community Programs

San Francisco Opera Guild is gearing up for another exciting year of activities, training, performances, and travel for youth ensembles Opera Scouts and Madrigals. These award-winning afterschool programs for students meet on Monday afternoons throughout the academic year to work on singing, acting, musicianship, theory, history, languages and more! Opera Scouts (ages 12-18) will be learning French, hosting incredible industry guest artists, performing at important events and in recital, and traveling to France for a culture and performance tour next spring. Madrigals (ages 7-11) will be focusing on solo and group singing, music theory and movement and creating and performing their own opera! There's still time to join the fun—classes start September 12.

Opera Together introduces two ways for students to fall in love with Elixir!

This fall students all over Northern California will participate in San Francisco Opera Guild’s Opera Together program featuring an adaptation of Donizetti’s The Elixir of Love. In this signature Guild program, teams of professional singers visit Bay Area schools performing a clever adaptation of this classic opera with students from each school playing supporting and choral roles in an assembly. Students learn the music, story, and history of the opera, hear professional voices in an intimate setting and experience the thrill of live performance on stage. In December students from nearly 80 schools will come together for two special community performances at the Atrium Theater. Additionally, all participating schools are invited to the mainstage final dress rehearsal of The Elixir of Love at San Francisco Opera to engage in a different adaptation of the classic work. Classrooms are also invited to participate in “Tech Track”, a new initiative this year connecting this artistic program with science, math, design, and technology activities.

Summer Conservatory Photo Recap

It's been a few weeks and we are still reliving our favorite moments from our Summer Conservatory Program. This year's group of incredible young Opera enthusiasts took center stage during the three week Opera Summer Camp where they participated in over 90 hours of instruction in acting, singing, movement, music theory and more! They captivated audiences with their solo lunchtime recital of art songs and a final production of Purcell's Dido and Aeneas at the Atrium Theater.

Summer Conservatory is not just about opera; it's about fostering creativity, camaraderie, and a love for the arts. Our students delved deep into the world of opera, learning and laughing and making friends along the way. Students enjoyed evening trips to the theater, worked together on projects and grew as artists and individuals.
