Back then we only had dialup okay..lol and the resources we have today was non existent for this small town boy. I am proud, proud to of opened up a gay and Asian-owned plant shop. Proud that I have gotten to where I am with the upbringing I had. Proud to be able to live my true authentic self and proud to finally be happy in the skin I am today. It truly, gets better😊

▫️This week is Small Business Week in San Francisco and it made me reflect on my journey as a small business owner over the last 5 years.
•
▫️Someone asked me the other day, if I enjoyed what I do. I took a moment to think about what they had ask and in that exact moment I also thought, why wasn’t my answer an immediate “Yes”. Don’t get me wrong, I love plants and I certainly love what I do. But I hate worrying about the financial side of the business. This recession has hit us hard. I am working longer days and having a lot of sleepless nights worrying about various things. But that question they asked me kinda made me think to “stop to smell the roses”.

▫️When I opened up Plant Therapy in the Tenderloin neighborhood (where I lived in) I did it with the intention to bring more people into the neighborhood that I loved, and that I did. Community has always been a huge part of what I wanted Plant Therapy to be. I know I have been so blessed to work with so many of you throughout the years. Although, we still donate gift cards to various organizations throughout the year, I’ve been wanting to do more and circle back to what I wanted Plant Therapy to be about.

▶️ A lot of people think that String of Turtles are just like any other plants grown in a plant nursery. But, they actually are grown and produced at a Turtle Hatchery in Costa Rica.

Fun fact, baby turtles actually shed their first shell at just 3 days old? And then they grow their permanent shell after?
Did you know? 4,0123 vibrant color shells of 3 day old baby turtles are collected and looped together through natural fibers of the sea, to make up just one 4” pot! This is why these plants are so pricey😢

One thing that stood out was that we all live busy lives and often we forget about our plants. Whether we just keep saying, “I’ll get to it next week” or we just get overwhelmed with our plants looking sad and simply just don’t know what to do. This is where comes in. Plantlllar is a on demand plant care service. With real certificated plant parents that go through our extensive training of plant care. With our 5+ years in this industry, we have experienced and learned through trial and error, what plant parents need. We’ve already been providing these services through our online appointments, the only difference is that you can now book a appointment and have us at your home that same day.

➡️ I’ve been avoiding posting about the closure, but am now finally ready to talk about it. I opened up this little plant shop almost 5 years ago. This shop was vacant and I would walk by it everyday, one day peeking in and thinking this would be something cute. What was meant to be a one man show, grew to what it is now. Never in a million years would I of ever thought that I would own a business. The reality is, owning a business is hard. It’s not meant for everyone. Even with people around you all the time, you feel alone. But I am grateful that I took this risk and did everything I have along the way. Plant Therapy #1 is my baby, and will always be. But I am so excited for the future of Plant Therapy. I will be launching a 🆕 Project in the next coming weeks…and I hope you continue to support me in my journey. ▶️ UPDATE: We wanted to update you all on what is going on with Plant Therapy. We, like so many other plant shops across the world are struggling. A lot of plant shop friends of ours have had to closed down their pride and joy. Every single week, a shop has closed.

We are not immune to this. We are so grateful to have built a community that has supported our shops throughout the years and especially now. Thank you for choosing us for all your plant needs. Thank you for telling your friends and family about us. Thank you for your support. Though, times have been tough, I reflect on what Plant Therapy was just about 5 years ago. I think about how I started all this thinking it was just going to be a one man show. I think about how I did all this with the many challenges I faced throughout my life.

Never in a million years would I have ever thought I could own my own business. I never graduated high school due to racism and homophobia. But when I reflect on where I am now, I am so proud of myself and grateful to each of you for allowing me to do what I love, for that, I am forever indebted to you all. Thank you so much 💕

One of the last things my brother had said to me, after I told him how tough the business was right now..

This morning my brother passed away. My brother loved being a provider. We didn’t grow up celebrating Christmas,not because we didn’t want to, we were just poor and couldn’t afford it. My brother one night came home with a tree and decorations to give my sister and I a Christmas. Since moving to San Francisco, I’ve seen less and less of him over the years, but he would from time to time, ask me to come home because he missed me.

My brother is survived by his wife and four young kids. My brother, like myself had his own business, but with the rescission, his wife had to take on a job to help out with the bills. But right now, my sister-in-law needs to be with their kids.

I understand this post had nothing to do with plants but without my brothers support throughout the years, Plant Therapy wouldn’t exist. I have linked the GoFundMe page to support my brothers family. Please donate if you can…I love you brother, Rest well💕
